No event draws as many viewers each year as the Super Bowl does. And no event draws as many bets each year as the Super Bowl does.

The gambling market has grown to such a volume, that sportsbooks are more at ease with unusual markets. They should turn a profit regardless, so they entice more action with absurd approaches.

Some of these bets will not be available to you through legal sportsbooks. In the United States, the rule of thumb remains that sportsbooks can offer only bets that will be settled on the field. The fear of insider knowledge leading to massive bets or fixed results dictates prudence.

Let’s take a look at some of the craziest Super Bowl odds that are not usual NFL odds, and be sure to check out our full Chiefs vs. Eagles predictions before placing your NFL picks.

Color of Gatorade poured on winning head coach

  • Yellow/Lime or Green -125
  • Purple +300
  • Orange +700
  • Blue +1000
  • Red/Pink +1200
  • Water/Clear +1500

Most sportsbooks and states in the United States do not allow this bet, but it is one of the most popular Super Bowl props. FanDuel in Ontario has the above odds.

Do not base your bet on team colors in any regard. Players are not thinking about matching their in-game hydration to their jerseys. Fashion worries go only so far.

Find someone who does not prefer lime Gatorade during a workout. You can’t. That is why it is the clear favorite.

Jersey number of first TD scorer

  • Over 15.5 -120
  • Under 15.5 -110

This is one of those on-field bets that is unusual in a regular-season week but folks just cannot help themselves in the Super Bowl.

You might be inclined to think about Patrick Mahomes and his No. 15 jersey in this bet, but looking at the odds for First TD Scorer, Mahomes is far from a frontrunner.

The four names atop that betting chart are, in order …

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley: No. 26
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts: No. 1
Chiefs WR Kareem Hunt: No. 29
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce: No. 87

That Over 15.5 makes some sense, doesn’t it?

Total players to throw for a TD?

  • Over 2.5 +1,600
  • Under 2.5 -6,000

Consider this a “Philly Special” bet.

What team apparel will Drake be wearing on Super Bowl?

  • Chiefs -200
  • Eagles +150

Heading into the Super Bowl kickoff, only one person is guaranteed to suffer more reputational loss. Every Philadelphia Eagles player and every Kansas City Chiefs player has a genuine chance at winning a Super Bowl. Everyone else involved with the Super Bowl can dazzle or stub their toe, who knows?

But Drake is already set up to be embarrassed.

If Kendrick Lamar opens with “Not Like Us,” then Drake’s continued humiliation will start the halftime show. If Kendrick holds off until the end, then Drake’s humiliation will be considered the climax of the biggest concert of the year. Good luck suing the NFL, Drake.

If Kendrick does not play his Grammy winner at all, it will be seen as easing up on Drake because he has already suffered enough. Would that possibility be the most demeaning?

Drake better at least pick the right winner.

What will be higher?

  • 76ers PG Tyrese Maxey points at Milwaukee -175
  • Patrick Mahomes pass completions +135

Take Tyrese Maxey. His Overs will be featured in Sunday’s NBA props article. Why?

Because the 76ers have an abbreviated turnaround with that Sunday tip set for 2 ET. They play Friday night in Detroit. Their travel to Milwaukee will not be much, but any abbreviated turnaround may come at Joel Embiid’s and Paul George’s expense.

Maxey has averaged 29.2 points in 32 games without Embiid this season. Mahomes has completed 17 passes per game, peaking at 18-of-26 against the Bills in the AFC Championship.

Maxey should have some cushion while winning this bet.

Number of patties on Andy Reid’s postgame burger

  • Over 1.5 -120
  • Under 1.5 -120

This was on the menu and in this article last year. The commentary remains unchanged. Is it really a burger if it has only one patty?

Which backup QB will be mentioned first?

  • Carson Wentz -300
  • Kenny Pickett +200

As a college football fan, the idea of Jalen Hurts rolling his ankle and Kenny Pickett needing to take over in the Super Bowl is an absolute delight.

What would be even better? If Pickett then lost his helmet for a play and Ian Book had to check into the game.

That would be worth putting down a burger to watch.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
