These teams tangled Tuesday night in Jersey when the Leafs won 5-2, with Tyler Bertuzzi leading the way with two goals and a helper in the win. Bertuzzi has had a lot of success against the Devils throughout his career, putting up points in eight straight meetings and for a total of 14.
At -120 to register a point in tonight's NHL odds, I like the Over on Bertuzzi.
He’s got 13 points in 14 games since the NHL Trade Deadline and has gotten hot lately while skating alongside Auston Matthews and Max Domi. As a trio, those three lead the league with 6.79 goals scored per 60 minutes while on the ice together.
As for the Devils, they're limping toward the end of a tumultuous season.
The Devils have given up four goals per game on average over their last five games, with a middling 68% penalty kill. With the Leafs offense humming, it’ll leave ample opportunity for Bertuzzi to register a point for a ninth straight time against the Devils.
This is especially the case if Matthews goes beast mode, which is extremely possible as he’s also torched New Jersey throughout his career with 15 goals in 16 games. This is an excellent chance for Bertuzzi to record a helper here to cash his points prop.
