Flames vs Golden Knights Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

With both teams off to solid starts this campaign, our NHL expert believes there's very little to choose between the two sides. Instead, Neil Parker will back Flames winger Connor Zary to continue putting pucks on the net.

The Calgary Flames head to Sin City to take on the Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Monday, October 28.

While Vegas has won six straight on home ice out of the gate, my Flames vs. Golden Knights predictions and NHL picks are calling for Calgary to hang tough tonight.

Flames vs Golden Knights prediction

My Flames pick
Connor Zary Over 1.5 shots (-165 at BET99)

My Flames analysis

Calgary Flames winger Connor Zary has two or more shots in three consecutive games and six of eight for the season, and his shots and attempts are up from last season. He’s recorded 7.97 shots and 15.95 attempts per 60 minutes after posting respective 5.61 and 10.91 marks in 2023-24.

There’s a simple explanation for the uptick, too.

First, Zary has been given an expanded role in his second season in the league and is playing consistently with center Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman. The sophomore winger made similar jumps in shots in the AHL and WHL, too.

Zary averaged 1.6 shots per game in his first full season in the AHL and then climbed to 2.5 in his second. Similarly, he averaged 2.4 per game in his first run through the WHL and then skyrocketed to 3.6 per in his second.

This is a sneaky good matchup, as well.

The Vegas Golden Knights have also allowed the ninth-most shots per game (30.3) and eighth-most shots per 60 (30.13) while sporting a 29th-ranked 44.5 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five.

Under 6.5 goals

Connor Zary Over 1.5 shots

In addition to Vegas having horrible 5-on-5 possession numbers, the Golden Knights also rank 29th with a 43.97 expected goals percentage and sport the fourth-highest PDO (104.8) that’s fueled by a league-high 14.5 team shooting percentage.

Statistical correction is staring down the Golden Knights, and Calgary has the workman style to hang around as a pesky road underdog. Starter Dan Vladar sports a .934 save percentage and 2.00 GAA with 0.53 goals saved above average across his past three starts, and the Flames have also surrendered the third-fewest goals per 60 (1.61) at 5-on-5, after all.
