My analysis

The Edmonton Oilers may be without Connor McDavid tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t come out on top. Edmonton’s addition of Adam Henrique at the trade deadline gave it another forward who is capable of anchoring a line in the top six, or playing down in the lineup if he has to.

The Oilers are 9-3-2 since March 10 and 5-1-1 in their last seven games. That includes two straight wins over the Avalanche and Flames prior to having three days off before tonight’s matchup.

While the loss of McDavid is key, the Oilers still have home-ice advantage and, more importantly, the Golden Knights typically struggle on the road.

Vegas is 18-16-6 away from home this season which may not seem too bad, but that’s 18-22 on the moneyline. The Golden Knights are also just 5-6-2 in their last 13 road games dating back to February 24 — including back-to-back losses against the Canucks and Coyotes.

Even without McDavid the Oilers are a much better team than the Coyotes, and although they’re a step behind the Canucks, getting Edmonton at around even money at home against a Vegas squad that’s bad on the road seems like a strong bet.

Finally, Logan Thompson appears to be wearing down in net for the Knights. After allowing just one goal in each of his five starts from March 17 to 30, he’s allowed three, six, and four goals in his last three outings.

Zach Hyman anytime goalscorer

While some may believe Zach Hyman is a product of Connor McDavid, the winger is talented in his own right. He’s playing with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl on the top line tonight, which isn’t too shabby of a combination.

Edmonton has scored at least four goals in its last five wins while Vegas has been allowing at least four goals in its losses. The Oilers should be able to solve a fatigued Logan Thompson with Hyman getting in on the action.
