The Edmonton Oilers end their road trip against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday evening at the United Center, and the NHL odds have the Oilers as -270 favorites.

Chicago has lost seven of its past nine games, with six of those seven losses coming by at least a two-goal margin, and my Oilers vs. Blackhawks predictions expect this trend to continue Saturday night.

Read on for my NHL picks for Saturday, January 11.

My Oilers analysis
The Chicago Blackhawks’ woes are a product of multiple factors. First, outside of Connor Bedard, this offense fails to produce.

Chicago ranks in the bottom three of the league in goals scored per game, shots on goal per game, and xGF/60. Not that the blue line is much stronger, given that the Blackhawks surrender high-danger scoring chances at a high rate.

Entering this matchup, they rank 25th in xGA/60. When combining their weak defense with a poor offense, it’s unsurprising that the Hawks rank 30th in expected goal differential per 60 minutes.

These issues are going to be further illuminated on the second half of a back-to-back against a rested Edmonton Oilers team. The rest differential is the final nail in the coffin for a team that lags in nearly every measurable statistic.

Edmonton ranks higher in virtually every single offensive and defensive metric, as well as faceoffs and special teams. Seven of the Oilers’ past 10 wins against Chicago have come by at least a two-goal margin, and considering the rest differential, this trend is likely to continue Saturday.

Oilers vs Blackhawks same-game parlay (SGP)

Oilers -1.5

Leon Draisaitl anytime goalscorer

Zach Hyman anytime goalscorer

If we are backing Edmonton to win by two or more goals, then we need some of its skaters to find the back of the net. Let’s start with Leon Draisaitl, who leads the NHL with 31 goals.

Simply put, he is currently the best goalscorer in hockey and has buried the puck seven times over his past six games. I also want to take a look at his linemate, Zach Hyman.

These two wingers benefit immensely from a McDavid-centered line, which is why I believe both can find the back of the net in this matchup. Both Draisaitl and Hyman have scored in four of the Oilers’ past seven games against Chicago.
