Oilers vs Stars Prop Picks and Best Bets: Benn Keeps Streak Alive in Game 5

Our NHL betting picks have noticed Dallas Stars veteran Jamie Benn's steady presence on a line with two youngsters, and that's been a recipe for success. Chris Faria expects that to continue in Game 5 vs. the Edmonton Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars suit up for a crucial Game 5 tonight at American Airlines Center with a 3-2 series lead on the line.

Connor McDavid bagged three assists while Zach Hyman fired five shots in net in Edmonton’s 5-2 win in Game 4, while Dallas captain Jamie Benn extended his assist streak to five in the loss.

Find out how each of those players factor into my best NHL picks and Oilers vs. Stars predictions for Game 5 player props on Friday, May 31.

Today’s Oilers vs Stars prop picks and best bets

Prop bet #1: More McDavid magic

Connor McDavid had his fingerprints all over the Edmonton Oilers’ Game 4 win, factoring on three of five goals to help his club knot the series at two games apiece. The captain has been a point-producing machine so far in the series with seven points in four contests, and I’ll look for him to notch another multi-point effort tonight.

McDavid has collected at least two points in four of his last six games, including each of his last two outings, thanks to his dominant play at 5-on-5. While McDavid posted 44 of his 132 points this season on the power play (33.3%), he hasn’t registered a single point on the man advantage in his last seven games.

Still, he’s found a way to produce as he’s controlled nearly 63% of the shot attempts as well as 56% of the expected goals when he’s on the ice at 5-on-5, per Natural Stat Trick. The Oilers have outscored the Stars 7-4 at 5-on-5 with McDavid on the ice in the series, with the captain collecting a point on six of his club’s goals.

Connor McDavid prop: Over 1.5 points (-130 at BET99)

Prop bet #2: Depend on Benn

Following a relatively disappointing regular season where he notched just 60 points in 82 games, Jamie Benn has come alive for the Dallas Stars in the playoffs with 15 points in 17 outings — one shy of the team lead. The Stars captain has been especially effective in the assists column and I expect him to pick up another helper in Game 5.

Benn skates into tonight’s contest on a five-game assist streak with at least one helper in every game of the Conference Finals, including two in each of his last two outings, while his six assists lead all players since the start of this round.

Skating on a line with two youngsters in Logan Stankoven and Wyatt Johnston, the trio has led the way offensively for the Stars with four goals against the Oilers — the most by any Dallas line in the series. Johnston has done the bulk of the damage for that line with two goals while scoring on 25% of his shots, so if Benn can keep feeding him the puck, his assist streak should live on.

Jamie Benn prop: Over 0.5 assists (+150 at BET99)

Prop bet #3: New heights for Hyman

Although he didn’t find the back of the net, Zach Hyman was all over the puck once again in Game 4 with a game-high five shots on target. The Oilers winger has put at least four shots on net in five of his last six contests and looks to be on pace to hit the Over on 3.5 shots once again in Game 5.

Primarily riding shotgun with McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Hyman’s line has generated a team-leading 57 shot attempts and 25 shots on net throughout the Conference Finals. That’s 18 more attempts than any other line for either the Oilers or the Stars, according to Natural Stat Trick.

While Hyman has scored just four goals in his last 10 contests, that hasn’t stopped him from shooting as he’s recorded a league-leading 44 shots on net over that span. In fact, Hyman leads all skaters with 68 shots this postseason, averaging 4.25 shots per game.

Zach Hyman prop: Over 3.5 shots (-130 at BET99)
