The well-rested New York Rangers will host the inconsistent Buffalo Sabres tonight at Madison Square Garden in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Special teams will be an important theme in this contest, and that area of the game definitely favors the home team, particularly one player on their blue line.

Find out why my Sabres vs. Rangers predictions are dialed in on Adam Fox in my best NHL picks for Thursday, November 7.

Sabres vs Rangers prediction

My best bet
Adam Fox 1+ power play points (+210 at FanDuel)

My analysis

The New York Rangers have tallied goals on the man advantage in three straight games and come into this matchup with the NHL’s sixth-best power play, converting at 28.1%.

The quarterback of the Rangers' top power-play unit is Adam Fox, who racks up a ton of points with an extra attacker. More than half of Fox’s production this season has come on the power play as he has nine assists in 11 games this season, five of which are on the man-advantage.

The Buffalo Sabres' penalty kill has been beyond weak thus far. Not only are they committing the fifth-most penalties per game, but they’re not doing a great job at killing those off. either.

The Sabres' kill is converting at a 73.8% rate, which ranks 24th in the league. The Rangers are not a team that you want to take penalties against, but this group can’t seem to help themselves.

The Rangers' power play should be able to convert tonight, and if they do there’s a very high chance that Fox will be involved in it.

Sabres vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Adam Fox 1+ points

Filip Chytil 3+ shots on goal

Artemi Panarin 4+ shots on goal

Adam Fox has been generating plenty of offense for the Rangers, even if most of it is on the power play. He’s still looking for his first goal of the season and has had some good looks, but hasn’t been able to finish. That luck will change soon.

Filip Chytil hasn’t been talked about nearly enough this season. He only played in 10 games last season, and from what we’re seeing thus far, he was a huge loss for the Rangers in their playoff run. Chytil is averaging 2.55 shots per game, but has had a minimum of three shots in four of his last five games.

Artemi Panarin continues to be on a tear when it comes to offensive production, as he has nine goals and nine assists for 18 points through 11 games.

Panarin had two goals on five shots in the teams' most recent game and he is looking to stay hot against a Sabres team that doesn’t play the most consistent defense. Panarin is averaging 3.55 shots per game, I don’t see that dropping at all tonight.
