Thanks for the info Josbran. It was exactly what i was looking for.
And to Gambler, if you don't understand what Lay betting entails that's fine but handicapping should be an endeavor of constant discovery in an attempt to maximize one's understanding of the sport as well as profit. Lay betting can be a very useful tool especially when used against a weak favorite. Instead of attempting to figure out which other horse to bet to win or which exacta combo to make you simply have to bet against the favorite to win. And the great thing is the shorter the odds on the favorite the more you stand to make. So I wouldn't be so quick to ignore or nay say it. |

Thanks for the info. It's unfortunate that there are no US sites for lay betting, or at least none i have found so far. If anyone knows differently please let me know. Thanks!

in an attempt to improve my game (read ROI/profits) I have been researching Lay betting. The idea of betting against a horse to win. I assume many handicappers have done this to some extent, found a weak favorite and bet others to win or a number of exotics excluding such horse whether intra race or through several races in succession.
My question is does anyone know of a reputable site through which lay bets may be made? I am interested in trying this approach and unfortunately Twinspires (the best standard online betting site in my opinion) does not offer such wagers. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Agreed Greyhound. If you are going to tout then you should be willing to let us see how you're doing. My advice would be to completely ignore any "handicapper" that doesn't report on their outcomes. It's the only way to earn any credibility.

Mike Smith Sucks..... Top 3!?!?!? LOL! Maybe top 30...
Just because the guy wins one of the triple crowns does not annoint him in the least.... Just like Borel. He is a second tier jock who just happens to know Churchill better than everyone else and has gotten lucky more than once (Street Sense comes to mind). Lets get serious. You're obviously not a trip handicapper and need to watch more races. Drosselmeyer is a second finish stakes horse who was on his toes on an important day but who typically has no dynamic speed. He's a grinder and it's hard to get excited about grinders. Sorry. |

Actually his ride was pretty shitty. He forced her from the far outside and instead of stalking with her which she is capable of he pushed the throttle the whole way and almost got sucked in by Mine that Bird. But more importantly that was Rachael not Supersaver. As I said, Pimlico is possible if not unlikely, but the Belmont...no way.

Agree with Fatroll... Calvin will not like Pimlico near as much as Churchill and the race will not be a ridiculous cavalry charge as the Derby always is. I do think Supersaver has a shot in the Preakness but he will not win the Belmont... The 1978 drought stays in effect.
I do kinda hope he wins the Preakness though so i can bet against him in the Belmont and get a good price! |

Yay! Hooray for Calvin, the toothless hillbilly! I really need to stop playing the Derby. It's a joke. It is a cavalry stampede where better horses get slammed around and cut off and there are never any inquires. Add the fact that the slop ruins most of the horses consistency and the whole thing turns into a crapshoot.
Calvin knows how to ride at Churchill to be sure but everywhere else he is a 2nd tier jock. No way Supersaver is a triple crowner. Icebox was the better horse and will win the Belmont if entered and with any bit of contested speed. Think from now on i'm gonna sit out the Derby and take advantage of everyone's faulty opinions in the Preakness and Belmont based on what they saw at the Derby earlier. And yes...it may be sour grapes but it's also true.... |

And as far as Slop favoring the front...hogwash. Yes, some of the horses behind will be bothered by the flinging mud but it's more of a matter of which horse likes it. Plenty of horses win from off the pace or out of the clouds in the slop including last years Derby winner. Line of David, the fastest of the horses fractionally through the first two calls worked by himself on the muddy track and Sadler said he hated it and was very disappointed by his effort. The slop will matter but don't go throwing out competitive horses just because of it.

I'm with Fatroll here.... No chance for Jackson's Bend....... He loses both his last two by 10 and 8 1/2 lengths. He wouldn't have even finished 2nd in the Wood if Awesome Act hadn't have thrown a shoe and had Leparoux strangling him the whole while.
He is a fair Presser, more suited to a mile and nothing more. He will not be able to keep up with many of these and add to the fact that his breeding suggests he'll hate the slop and you've got a losing proposition. Should be 30/1. |

If you can find these match-ups on another site then great but DO NOT BET SPORTSBOOK.com!!!
They are scammers and scumbags that still have my money. They will likely not payout to you. They had money of mine tied up for months saying that they were changing processors, then that they can only payout so much money in a month and that they were beyond that limit, etc.. I got the run around from them over and over even after talking to a "supervisor". They just say they are sorry and trying to resolve things...blah, blah, blah.... Long story short, I still don't have my money and never will....it's been over 2 years now. It was only $150 but it's $150 that i'll never see again. They are a foreign company and as such there is nothing i can legally do to recoup it. They rely on numbers of members and obviously don't care about customer service. I would try bodog for sportsbetting as they are reputable and payout quickly. Tell all your friends SPORTSBOOK ARE THIEVES! |

Funny thing, in my write up i talk about the connections for Miner's Reserve along with the fact that he is owned by LaPenta but i never considered the winner...who happened to have the same everything...
DOH! Not to mention that Zito uses Lezcano more than Desourmoux.. Oh well! Made a little in the earlier races so it didn't devastate me. Mikey, I am actually more on board with Rule than i was before. To race so powerfully under those fractions was impressive. He may not make the 1 1/4 mile distance but we still haven't seen him rate. Pletcher talked about how he is not one faceted and that he can rate but they certainly didn't prove that today. If he can rate then he still has a shot. Would love to see it. Don't give up yet! |

Atlas, Def. agree with Miner's Reserve especially since you know he won't be better than 3rd bet...

R 11 The Florida Derby
#1 Soaring Empire- Only 3 races, improved off layoff and can rate and close, best thing going would be a pace melt down and will be a price #2 Lentenor- Great lineage, good works on dirt but never been on it in a race, has don e nothing wrong on the turf and continues to improve #7 Rule- Not much to say here, Pletcher's B horse has won his last 4 on the engine, don't think this will be a wire job, he will have to learn to rate and it might be now #9 Miner's Reserve- Only 2 races and last was very nice, looks dynamic, the connections are great including owner LaPenta and tied for 2nd for best last out Beyer, seems to have the most upside especially for the price #11 RadioHead- First North American races successful, impeccable connections but stepping up in dirt class here, probably legit 2nd choice Exacta 9/1,2,7,11 Exacta 1,2,7,11/9 Trifecta 7,11/1,2/9 |

R10 The Swale
#3 Ibboyee- Pletcher/Johnny again, nice last race after layoff, fair third to D'Funnybone after rough start, can stalk with enough spped to keep him in the mix #4 City Trooper- Last two untroubled races were fair to good, finishing less than 3 lengths behind Ibboyee but not sure he has the late kick #6 Dixie Band- Good dirt works though never run on it, can stalk with early speed (at least on synthetic) and connections are right, Catalano/Leparoux #7 D'Funnybone- Fast, multiple Graded stakes winner, Dutrow/Prado, legit favorite #8 Gary D- Lightly raced, improving, his speed gives him a puncher's chance Exacta 7/3,4,6,8 Exacta 3,4,6,8/7 |

R9 The Appleton
#1 Society's Chairman-Not a great deal of backend zip, commonly runs further, has been beaten by Rahy's Attorney 3 times already, the upside is Lezcano piloting #3 Kiss the Kid- Not sure why he is the favorite here, has won graded stakes but not for a while, older horse has been running flat for the last year and grinding will probably not get this done, trainer stats do not boost appeal #4 Carson Hall- Can stalk or close, 4 for 6 in the exacta at the distance, 7/11 on the turf, trouble in both of last 2 races, above class here but in it with a shot at a nice price #6 Storm Play- Out of Smart Strike but has never run on turf, decent turf works, ambitious placement here but does have early speed, Johnny and Pletcher together, will be a good price #7 Rahy's Attorney- Decending Beyer's, looks to have early speed but fractional times for 7 1/2f will press him, doesn't look to be able to stalk, still the biggest earner in the field #8 Boots Ahead- Young and lightly raced, can stalk fast fractions, 2nd off layoff in the beginning of his 4th season, Leparoux up #9 Almoradi- ? Foreigner has little in earning and his turf starts were decent but at a lesser level, first North American unimpressive but breeding is decent, Biancone's recent stats unimpressive Exacta 4,8/1,3,4,6,7,8,9 Exacta 6,7/4.8 Trifecta 4,8/6,7/4,8 Exacta 4,8/4,8 |
