Government Assistance....It Blows My Mind How Many People "Need" It
in General Discussion
The thing is its American Culture- people do it, companies do it, it will never end as law makers pass these types of subsidies/gov. assistance/entitlements to get voted in/stay in power.
-Oil Companies get Billions, do they need it? -Farmer/dairy subsidies-largest in the world a couple years ago -Coal/Green energy- Both new clean energy and old dirty energy get pretty large subsidies/tax breaks- shouldn't gov choose one path and give the money to that sector? -Financial Companies- allowing to to pay structure companies so they pay lower rate on profits vs if they were a different type of company. -Airports-Many are allowed to use Federal/State land rent free Not saying any of this is right or wrong, but companies and people both want subsidies and they it the system was created everyone and every company feels they deserve something from the government. People say they are poor, need help, etc.- Companies say they create jobs, need to compete, would increase prices without them. People are saying "don't have kids if you can't afford it", should companies close down if they can't work without gov. subsidies? If that was the case half of farmers would be gone tomorrow. Price of food and energy would go up. |

For things like cancer it actually is strange, Cancer care here in Canada is actually better than the USA in most instances, so something is wrong with paper work or it came back as a negative.
From someone who comes from a medical family (dads a doctor, moms a nurse), Canada is actually better for life treating issues, heart, stroke, cancer. Is the non life treating illnesses/issues that we are slower/worse than the us, hip replacement for example. I don't really know how true that is, but that family, and there friends say. |

I moved to Dubai for a year straight out of University since there IT sector was booming, made very good money there and had house, food and car allowance.
Very good experience. Keep in mind I came from Canada, not the USA. I personally don't know anyone who got into two much trouble except for being picked up for being overly drunk on the streets after clubbing. They were just let go the next day with a fine. It was mostly to get drunks off streets as opposed to actually punishing you. They want the image of a Muslim country. Clubs were amazing, as were beaches, lots of tourist stuff to do. I couldn't get onto betting sites from my computer there, they were all blocked (used pinnacle and will hill back than), There were bookies, but i only used them for NHL playoffs and a bit on NFL. I got connected with some Brits at my office. They were set up in a condo, and all bets were phoned in, but keep in mind this was 2008. Other things like Skype were blocked than too, (country owns a monopoly on phone services) Not sure if that has changed as of yet. Getting adult entertainment on your computer is harder too, lots of things are blocked. Here is something most people don't really talk about, dubai and abu dhabai are small cities. They have a lot of cool, large, expensive infrastructure but they are small. And outside of those two cities (they are an hour apart), all you have is desert. In North America we wanna go somewhere for the weekend? Drive to NY, Montreal, DC, up north, its easy. There, you are flying. Keep that in mind. It was a great fun year, I didn't really save anything as they are expensive cities but glad I did it. If you have specific questions let me know. |

Our unions were so nice they only striked in one city per day!!!
It is no longer a strike though, management has now locked them out nation wide. Difference in my life? I no longer get fliers. |

This might not be up your ally, but this is what me and my friends do for extra money. 4 of us got our mortgage brokers license, and now deal with secondary mortgages mainly to investors. This is loaned to people who can't get traditional loans either because they don't have the credit, already own a home or to investors, we focus on investors only. The loans are short term, 30-180 days and are charged between 12-18%, you are also secured to a property in case of default.
We started with 100K, or 25K each and our first loan was 90 days at 11% to an overseas Asian investor buying 4 condos in downtown Toronto. He needed us to bridge finance between a sale of other investment condos and the purchase of new ones. 90 days, made 11K 4 ways. Done this several times now, and always have been paid back and made money. Now keep in mind I live in Canada, where home prices were not affected like they were in the US, they have been appreciating steadily since 90's. I do know of people who do this in the US, and infact got the idea from my friends cousin who does this in California. Me and my friends all have knowledge of money and contracts. I am an accountant, two of the guys work for banks, the other is a lawyer. We all researched pretty hard before we did this, and understand there could be a major default and will take time from than to collect money against the property. There are tons of ways to make money, just have to research, and have dedication on something. If the straight investment route sounds something you are more interested in look at high yielding ETF's, something that will pay 5-10% plus will liklely give you decent appreciation. Lots of energy ETF's do this. |

I'm fairly certain the answer is no, but do any sports books offer any rewards type programs, something similar to say a party poker?
My bets total around $5K/week and want to know if I should be looking at new books. Currently use Pinnacle & thegreek. Would be awesome if they did something for you like the poker sites, but again I am doubtful anyone would give you perks plus good lines. |

So we are winning the Stanley cup now. Go Leafs baby lol.
As a leaf fans I still think we miss the playoffs next year since we don't have the cap space to sign anyone. We have one, 7 milllion for 6 players needed? So really no point of Giguere trade in my opinion, rather just have cap space this summer. |

Are you in University? If so just ask around, I know when I was in school there were tons of who took action.
But as a Canadian, why not just bet online? It's easy for Canadians with more options |

I really like the Atlanta, and Ottawa plays.
Atlanta can just score, they win on the road, and have been getting good goaltending. Det is banged up, they are still good, but should not be favored by that much. Like The sens, but might stay off the, not sure how they will play on the road after a great home stand. |
