The Los Angeles Angels (21-35) are looking for the pain to stop after dropping five of their last six games. They begin a three-game weekend series on the road this Friday night against the Seattle Mariners (31-27), who just took three of four from the Houston Astros.
Seattle is expected to keep the winning ways alive according to MLB odds, sitting at -170 on the moneyline.
The Mariners have been on a torrid run to the Under, and my MLB picks and Angels vs. Mariners predictions expect it to continue tonight.

My analysis
Friday’s series opener features a starting pitching matchup between L.A.’s Jose Soriano and Seattle’s Bryan Woo. Let’s start our handicap by taking a closer look at the Los Angeles Angels starter and how he matches up with the Seattle Mariners at the dish.
Soriano is a flamethrower, averaging 99.5 mph on his four-seamer and 98.1 mph on his sinker. He was transitioned from the bullpen to the rotation this year and the results have been encouraging. The 25-year-old sports a 3.61 ERA, 3.57 xERA, and 3.96 FIP while forcing a ton of groundballs (98th percentile with a 62.4% GB%).
He’s been stellar on the road this year with a 1.67 ERA across 32 1/3 innings. I expect that success to continue against a Mariners team that has been hopelessly lost at the plate against right-handed pitching, posting a 78 wRC+ (28th), .270 wOBA (29th), and 30.1% K% (30th) in the last 15 days.
Woo has been superb through four starts with a microscopic 1.66 ERA to pair with strong peripherals (2.18 xERA, 2.66 FIP). He’s done a commendable job limiting free passes (98th percentile 2.5% BB%) and hard contact (91st percentile 3.3% barrel%).
Sure, that’s over a small sample size — but Woo impressed as a rookie last year with a 3.45 xERA and 25.1% K-rate. He’s a tantalizing young prospect that any team would love to have in their stable of arms. This is hardly a grueling matchup against an Angels lineup with an 82 wRC+ (25th) and a .284 wOBA (25th) in the last 15 days.
The Mariners have been an Under bettor’s dream at 21-33 O/U this season. They’ve cashed four straight Under tickets and are 1-7 O/U in their last eight games, and it’s easy to see why. The pitching has been fantastic, both in the rotation and the bullpen, while the lineup lacks punch and strikes out far too often.
Angels vs Mariners same-game parlay (SGP)
Soriano has K’d at least six batters in three of his last four starts. He looks to be fully stretched out after averaging 92 pitches thrown in his previous two starts and this is a fantastic matchup against a Seattle lineup that strikes out more often (28.3% K%) than any other team.
Woo’s K prop, on the other hand, is too high for my liking. The Angels have been decent at avoiding strikeouts against right-handers lately with a 21.4% K% in the last 15 days. The Cal Poly product has a 20.3% K% so far this year and has kept a pitch count in the low 70s, which simply isn’t enough for me to project him with a hefty K total on Friday.
