The A's are in a funk offensively, and facing Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman on Saturday afternoon is unlikely to cure what ails them, as our MLB betting picks explain.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics continue their series at Oakland Coliseum this afternoon after the hosts took a 2-1 win in Friday’s opener.

With both clubs struggling to produce offense this season and the A’s cashing the Under in five straight outings, we could be in store for another low-scoring contest. However, if there is one player who can break through for the Jays, it’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who’s notched five RBI in his last six games.

Read on for my Blue Jays vs. Athletics predictions and MLB picks for Saturday, June 8.

Blue Jays vs Athletics prediction

My best bet
Athletics team total Under 3.5 runs (-144 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

It was a scrappy 2-1 win for the Oakland Athletics on Friday, who scored their first run of the game in the sixth inning off a wild pitch from Toronto Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt before JJ Bleday hit a home run off the first pitch in the ninth inning for a walk-off victory.

Low-scoring games have been a trademark for the A’s of late, with the club cashing five straight Unders while recording three runs or fewer in each of those outings. I’ll look for that trend to continue Saturday as I’ve got the Athletics to score Under 3.5 runs as my best bet.

Oakland owns one of the weakest offenses in the MLB this season, averaging a mere 3.66 runs per game (28th). The A’s have been even worse offensively over the last couple of weeks, scoring Under 3.5 runs in 11 of their last 13 games while averaging 3.07 runs through that span.

The club’s top RBI man, Brent Rooker, has had a respectable start to his season with 39 runs driven in through 52 games, but the left fielder has gone cold with no RBI in his last five contests.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+165 at PROLINE+)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. seemed to find his stride in May and that’s carried forward into the first week of June as he’s batting .360 with five RBI in his last seven games.

The right-hand hitting Guerrero has actually been better against right-handed pitching this season with a .304 average and a .360 batting average on balls in play. He’ll have a chance to pounce on an inexperienced A’s starter in Luis Medina, who’s made just one start this season and carries a career ERA of 5.15 over 24 games.
