Blue Jays vs Rays Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today's MLB Game

Toronto's lineup is a mess right now outside of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and facing Shane Baz won't be the cure for what ails them this Sunday.

Tampa Bay Rays MLB Shane Baz

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to complete the sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon in an incredibly low-scoring series that’s seen just six runs scored across the first two games.

Shane Baz gets the call for the Rays as he looks to continue his best run of the season, and my Blue Jays vs. Rays predictions and MLB picks think he’ll have no problem doing so vs. a stagnant Toronto offense on Sunday, September 22.

Blue Jays vs Rays prediction

My best bet
Blue Jays team total Under 3.5 (-109 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

Jonathan Aranda led the Tampa Bay Rays to victory once again with a homer in a second straight game as the hosts eked out a 3-2 win while Taj Bradley held the Toronto Blue Jays slumping lineup to one run on six hits through five innings.

I don’t expect things to get much better for the visitors in today’s series finale as they go up against Shane Baz, who’s been pitching lights-out for the Rays.

The 25-year-old scattered two hits and two earned runs over seven innings against the Red Sox last Tuesday and has not allowed more than two earned runs in five straight starts, carrying a stingy 2.03 ERA over that span.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have scored a total of six runs through their last four outings. Toronto is batting just .228 as a team over the last seven days while their 17 runs scored during that span are tied for fifth-worst in the majors. Nearly half of those runs came in a 13-8 loss to Texas on Tuesday.

Combine a feeble Jays offense with a hot Rays starter, and I think we’ll see another low-scoring effort from Toronto today.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+150 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. failed to record his 100th RBI of the season on Saturday, but it certainly wasn’t for lack of trying as the Blue Jays star singled to all three parts of the outfield.

While the RBIs haven’t necessarily been flowing over the last week, Guerrero Jr. has been seeing the ball very well, batting .364 through his last six contests. I don’t expect the Jays to put up many runs against Baz and the Rays, but if someone’s going to lead the charge, it’ll most likely be Vladdy.

Blue Jays vs Rays moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • The Rays opened as the home favorite against the Blue Jays for the third straight game as the hosts look to win their fourth consecutive contest overall.
  • Toronto is 1-4 in its last five outings.
  • I’d certainly lean towards the Under given how both offenses have performed recently. The Jays are averaging 1.5 runs per game over their last four while the Rays haven’t been much better, scoring 1.75 runs per game through their last four.
  • The Under is 5-1 in Toronto’s last six contests and 9-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 10 outings.
