The Seattle Mariners are on a 7-3 run and surging up the standings, now sitting just 1.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the American League.
My Mariners vs. Rangers predictions see them grabbing another crucial victory against a divisional foe that has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Let’s dive deeper with my MLB picks for Sunday, September 22.
Mariners vs Rangers prediction
My best bet
Mariners moneyline (-130 at Pinnacle)
My analysis
Every game feels like do-or-die for the Seattle Mariners right now. Given the situation, there’s nobody better they could send to the bump than Bryan Woo.
He has pitched exceptionally well all season long. He is sporting a 2.86 ERA and an almost shockingly low WHIP of 0.88. Those are crazy-low numbers, especially considering he just conceded seven runs in fewer than five innings against the New York Yankees.
I love his chances of rebounding against the Texas Rangers. They have no Corey Seager nor any hopes of making the playoffs — and their recent numbers reflect that.
The Rangers are hitting just .214 against right-handed pitching over the past two weeks. That ranks them ahead of only four teams league-wide. They also slot 25th in xwOBA vs. righties in that time. They are likely to have a miserable time trying to up the ante against Woo.
Conversely, the Mariners look to be in a good spot offensively against Andrew Heaney. They have hit left-handed pitchers well of late, ranking Top-10 in both xwOBA and OPS during the month of September.
With an edge on the mound and a more in-form offense, I like the Mariners to take care of business on Sunday afternoon.
Mariners vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)
I love the correlation between the Mariners moneyline and Bryan Woo suppressing hits. The Mariners are as reliant on their starting pitching as any team in baseball. If they’re going to win, Woo will surely have a lot to do with it.
Woo is as good as it gets when it comes to limiting hits. He’s allowed 4.3 per game this season and conceded five or fewer in 17 of his 20 starts.
Julio Rodriguez has taken his game up a notch in crunch time for the Mariners. He’s picked up at least one hit in 16 of his past 20 games and is sporting a .281 average against left-handed arms this season.

- There has been some movement on the moneyline since open. The Mariners were priced at -120 at bet365 and now sit at -130.
- An adjustment was made on the total as well. It opened at 8 with the juice slightly on the Under. It currently sits at 7.5 runs with a -115 price attached to the Over.
