Blue Jays vs Rays Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today's MLB Game

Both these sides have been struggling at the plate, and regardless of pitching, we like those struggles to continue in this afternoon's clash.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays continue their three-game set at Tropicana Field this afternoon.

While a pitching matchup between Yariel Rodriguez and Taj Bradley doesn’t scream star power, my Blue Jays vs Rays predictions expect another low-scoring contest between the two clubs.

I'll explain why I like the Under in today’s MLB picks for Saturday, September 21.

Blue Jays vs Rays prediction

My best bet
Under 7.5 (+100 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Jonathan Aranda was the only batter to bring a run across the plate in Friday’s series opener as he hit a solo homer in the sixth to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 1-0 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays.

While I’m not expecting a pitching clinic between Yariel Rodriguez and Taj Bradley this afternoon, signs are pointing to another low-scoring affair between two clubs that have struggled to produce much offense this past week.

The Rays rank dead last in the MLB in runs scored over the last seven days, scoring just 13 times in their last six contests. Tampa Bay has scored three runs or fewer in three straight games and six of its last seven outings.

It doesn’t help that Yandy Diaz, who leads the Rays with 65 RBI this season, hasn’t driven in a run in eight straight games and has just one RBI in his last five meetings vs Toronto.

Offense hasn’t come easy for the Blue Jays, either, who have scored just four runs in their last three games while being shut out twice over that span. Toronto has scored four runs or fewer in five of its last seven outings while cashing the Under in four of the last five.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+145 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was one of only two Blue Jays batters to record a hit against Rays starter Tyler Alexander on Friday, as he singled to center in the first inning. The Jays slugger is just one shy of his second career 100-RBI season and I’ll be looking for him to hit the milestone this afternoon.

Guerrero Jr. came into this series swinging a hot bat after a three-hit, two-home run performance against the Rangers on Thursday. He’s driven in five runs in his last seven games and leads Toronto with 10 RBI this month.

Blue Jays vs Rays opening odds

  • Moneyline: Toronto +110 | Tampa Bay -130
  • Run line: Toronto +1.5 (-190) | Tampa Bay -1.5 (+160)
  • Over/Under: Over 7.5 (-120) | Under 7.5 (+100)

Blue Jays vs Rays moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • The Rays opened at –129 and their edge had already moved to –140 by Friday night. Tampa Bay is 7-3 in its last 10 games against Toronto.

  • While Yariel Rodriguez has been serviceable in his last three starts, allowing just two earned runs total over that span, he hasn’t had much success in the win column. The Jays are 1-7 in his last eight starts and Rodriguez is winless in his last 11 outings.

  • The total opened at 8 runs but immediately fell to 7.5 by Friday night. Both clubs have been playing to low-scoring affairs, with the Rays cashing the Under in eight of their last nine and the Jays doing so in five of their last seven.
