Blue Jays vs White Sox Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

Davis Schneider is one of the feel-good stories in the Blue Jays offense this year and he continues to drive the ship as the team's leadoff hitter. The White Sox have been a solid punching bag for Toronto, and that will continue tonight.

Can the Toronto Blue Jays finally build some momentum and sweep away the pitiful Chicago White Sox?

The Blue Jays are once again heavy favorites but laying big juice with Alek Manoah is not for the faint of heart. Instead, my Blue Jays vs. White Sox predictions focus on Toronto's bats, which have done their job against the Pale Hose.

See why Davis Schneider will be a key contributor to this in my MLB picks for Wednesday, May 29.

Blue Jays vs White Sox prediction

My best bet
Blue Jays team total Over 4.5 (-132 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

The Toronto Blue Jays are hefty -180 favorites for their series finale against the lowly Chicago White Sox but I don't recommend anyone lay that juice with Alek Manoah on the mound.

Manoah has shown some progress but is still clearly in the process of rebuilding his career. The right-hander is pitching to a 4.26 expected ERA and it’s hard to know what you’ll get from him. He followed up two terrific performances by allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks against the Detroit Tigers last time out.

So, let’s eliminate that variable and focus on the Blue Jays’ bats. Which, to be fair, have been better lately. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is on a tear, Bo Bichette appears to be turning a corner, and putting Davis Schneider in the leadoff spot has sparked something in this team. Toronto ranks 11th in batting average and wRC+, and 12th in OPS since the start of May and they have done their job against the White Sox in games not started by Garrett Crochet.

The Blue Jays are 4-1 in recent meetings against the White Sox. They have scored five or more runs in all four victories and plated seven or more three times, and Chicago starter Chris Flexen won't be the guy to buck that trend.

Shoutout to the KBO, but Flexen looks like nothing more than an innings eater for the last-place Pale Hose. The right-hander has a 4.59 xERA while surrendering a .262 opponent xBA. Those rank in the 25th in 29th percentile, respectively among MLB pitchers.

Flexen also doesn’t have much swing and miss in his game, ranking in the 17th percentile in strikeout rate and the 13th percentile in whiff rate. If the Blue Jays can remain patient, they should have ample opportunities to plate some runs.

Mix in a White Sox bullpen that ranks 23rd in xFIP and I like the Blue Jays to go Over a modest team total in this matchup.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Davis Schneider Over 0.5 RBIs (+140 at PROLINE+)

Let’s talk about the guy they call Babe. Blue Jays manager John Schneider finally wised up and put Davis Schneider (no relation) at the top of the lineup and is playing him every day. I mean, he only has one of the highest on-base percentages on the team.

Schneider is hitting .255 with a .836 OPS, six home runs, and 23 RBI and is swinging a hot stick right now. He is 6-for-his-last-15 (.400) with three doubles, a dinger, and eight RBI.

The rookie slugger has also benefited because Daulton Varsho, George Springer, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are finding their rhythm at the bottom of the Blue Jays batting order, allowing him to drive runners in when the lineup turns over.

Schneider has driven in a run in each of his last five games. With our Covers Prop Projections setting him at 0.6 RBIs in this matchup, I’ll happily back Babe to drive in another one tonight at this price.

  • Moneyline: Toronto -170 | Chicago +145

Blue Jays vs White Sox spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Blue Jays opened as big -170 road favorites but that didn't scare off early bettors with the line now upwards of -180.
  • The Blue Jays have now played the White Sox five times since the start of last week, winning all but one. They have been -180 moneyline favorites or greater in all four wins and have covered the run line in all four. (This says more about the White Sox than the Blue Jays).
  • The total hit the board at 8.5 and that's where it remains as of Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Blue Jays have been one of the better Under teams in baseball this season (23-31 O/U) but they have taken advantage of this matchup with the White Sox, scoring six runs per game in the five meetings this season helping the Over go 3-2 in those matchups.

He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can’t be friends with you if you don’t appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
