The San Francisco Giants finally snapped a six-game losing streak on Wednesday, but things won’t get any easier for them as they start a three-game set against the defending champion Texas Rangers tonight.
Josh Smith has been a big part of Texas’ recent success as he enters today’s contest with a team-leading 17 total bases over the past week. Keep reading to find out how Smith features in my Giants vs. Rangers predictions and MLB picks for Friday, June 7.

My analysis
The Texas Rangers routed the Detroit Tigers 9-1 in their final meeting of a three-game set on Wednesday. Josh Smith was all over the box score once again, recording his first three-hit performance of the season, which included a double, a home run, two RBI, and seven total bases.
The third baseman has posted multiple bases in four of his last six outings and I’ll look for him to do so again tonight vs. the San Francisco Giants.
Smith has been one of the hottest hitters in the majors over the last 15 days, ranking tied for 20th in batting average over that span (.333). The Louisiana State product has successfully recorded a hit in 15 of his last 19 games and eclipsed 1.5 total bases in eight of those outings.
The Rangers infielder has been even better over the last seven days, riding a .680 slugging percentage, a 1.065 OPS, and a .438 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) over that span.
Giants starter Logan Webb has had a solid first two months but has been slightly worse against left-handed batters, with lefties batting .269 and posting a .350 BABIP against him.
Giants vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)
Giants rookie Heliot Ramos is coming off a two-hit, five-base performance against the Diamondbacks and boasts 15 total bases over his last three games.
I’ll close out the SGP by taking the Rangers on the moneyline. The Giants have just one win in their last seven contests, while Rangers starter Michael Lorenzen has given up just three earned runs total across his last four starts, pitching at least six innings in each of those games.
