We have a full slate of games on tap for Tuesday, with all 30 MLB teams available for baseball bettors to choose from.
With so many picks for our MLB player props today, I’ve found three familiar names that stand out from the crowd as having good (or bad) matchups tonight.
I like Corbin Carrol and Shohei Ohtani to continue mashing against favorable pitching matchups, but have more questions over whether Justin Verlander can turn things around in San Francisco.
Let’s take a deeper look at my top MLB picks below.
Best MLB player props today
Corbin Carroll Over 1.5 bases (+105 at BetMGM)
Justin Verlander Over 2.5 earned runs (-125 at bet365)
Shohei Ohtani Over 2.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-105 at DraftKings)
MLB props for April 15
Corbin Carroll Over 1.5 bases (+105 at BetMGM)
Unlike last season, Corbin Carroll has gotten off to a hot start to his 2025 campaign. Over his first 16 games, Carroll is hitting .333 with five homers, 10 RBIs and 14 runs over his first 16 games, showing the kind of production most expected after his outstanding rookie year.
Carroll comes into tonight’s game riding a seven-game hitting streak. In five of those games, Carroll has picked up multiple hits, and in another, his only hit was a double. That puts him over his total of 1.5 bases for tonight in six of his last seven appearances.
Tonight, Carroll gets to face off against righthanded youngster Connor Gillispie, who has been solid in three short starts for the Miami Marlins this year. Carroll has an .875 OPS lifetime against righties, which is 174 points higher than his total against southpaws.
With Carroll likely batting leadoff, he should get plenty of opportunities to get on base, and is likely to mash against Gillispie starting from the top of the first. I see Carroll as a clear favorite to hit the Over tonight, so I’m happy to get plus money on this prop.
Justin Verlander Over 2.5 earned runs (-125 at bet365)
Are we finally seeing the end of Justin Verlander’s legendary career? Last year, in 17 starts for the Houston Astros, he put up a 5.48 ERA. In his first three starts for the San Francisco Giants in 2025, the 42-year-old has lasted a total of 13 innings, compiling a 6.92 ERA with a concerning 1.692 WHIP.
I’m not ready to say Verlander is completely cooked, as the future Hall-of-Famer is far too talented to write off completely. But we’re clearly well past the era in which Verlander was one of the most reliable starters in the majors. In his last two starts, he allowed three earned runs over just 2.1 innings against
the Seattle Mariners, then gave up five earned runs over 5.2 innings against the Cincinnati Reds on April 9.
Tonight, Verlander gets another tough assignment, as he’ll be visiting the hard-hitting Philadelphia Phillies. The Philadelphia lineup will likely be loaded up with lefty bats, including Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryson Stott.
Those three – and the rest of the lineup have the potential to knock Verlander out early. If Verlander lasts longer, they should eventually get to him on their second or third time through the lineup, as the powerful lefty bats will wear on Verlander in a stadium that rates as one of the best home run parks in the majors. I like the Phillies to do enough damage to put Verlander Over 2.5 earned runs.
Shohei Ohtani Over 2.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-105 at DraftKings)
It’s hardly a stretch to pick Shohei Ohtani to have a big night, but the Japanese superstar was suffering from a slight slump before breaking out against the Colorado Rockies last night. Ohtani had four hits in five games before Monday’s game, in which he went 3-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored.
Overall, Ohtani’s numbers aren’t quite up to the standards he set during 2024’s MVP performance, but he’s still hitting .296 with five homers, 18 runs, and 6 RBIs while compiling a .940 OPS. Most importantly, he’s getting on base at a .390 clip, giving him plenty of opportunities to score thanks to the deep lineup behind him.
Tonight, Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off against 28-year-old Rockies starter Ryan Feltner. While Felter is off to a promising start in 2025, his career numbers – including a 5.12 ERA and 1.414 WHIP – don’t inspire confidence. That’s especially true against Ohtani, who has teed off against righthanded pitching historically, not to mention the rest of the Dodgers lineup, which is capable of testing anyone. Let’s back Ohtani to have build on Monday’s performance and have another big night.
