Gerrit Cole is one of the top pitchers in the world and while he didn't look like it earlier in the year, he's starting to hit his stride.
My favorite MLB player props for today are betting on Cole's red-hot August to continue while also backing Colorado's Charlie Blackmon and Dodgers slugger Teoscar Hernandez.
MLB props for August 27
- Cole Under 2.5 earned runs (-130 at bet365)
- Blackmon Over 1.5 total bases (-105 at DraftKings)
- Hernandez Over 0.5 RBIs (+105 at bet365)
Today’s best MLB props
Prop bet #1: Gerrit Cole Under 2.5 earned runs
Gerrit Cole missed the first half of the season due to inflammation in his throwing elbow and looked a bit shaky in his first few starts after returning. However, it was only a matter of time before the six-time All-Star managed to find his footing and he seems to have done that in August, pitching to a 1.17 ERA in four starts.
Today, the New York Yankees ace faces off against a Washington Nationals lineup that is 24th in the majors in slugging (.377) while ranking among the Bottom-3 teams in barrel rate, exit velocity, and hard-hit rate. With Cole allowing fewer than 2.5 runs in six of his last seven starts and facing an offense that struggles to string hits together, take the Under again today with our MLB picks.
Prop bet #2: Charlie Blackmon Over 1.5 total bases
Charlie Blackmon has always thrived at Coors Field and his ugly stats away from home help us get some nice numbers on his props. Last year, Blackmon slugged .522 at home compared to .329 on the road and this year he's slugging .500 at Coors as opposed to just .281 in away contests.
Today, the Colorado Rockies host the Miami Marlins and right-hander Roddery Munoz, who has a 6.63 ERA while allowing opponents to slug .564 over his last 12 starts. Munoz is in the bottom 10th percentile of pitchers in average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate, and he gives up a ton of fly balls.
That seems like a nightmare combination at high elevation and with Blackmon also boasting the platoon advantage.
Prop bet #3: Teoscar Hernandez Over 0.5 RBI
Teoscar Hernandez gets to bat cleanup in a stacked Los Angeles Dodgers lineup that has Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman in front of him. Hernandez has taken full advantage, slashing .264/.328/.485 and ranking 15th in the majors with 83 RBI through 128 games.
His numbers have been even better at home where he slugs .520 and he excels with the platoon advantage, slashing .282/.341/.581 against southpaws.
That puts the Dodgers outfielder in a great spot today at home against struggling Baltimore Orioles lefty Cole Irvin. Since the beginning of June, Irvin has pitched to a 6.89 ERA with an OBA of .338 across 48 1/3 innings.
