Righty Brady Singer takes the hill today for the Kansas City Royals, and he’s coming off a tough home start against the New York Yankees. He scattered seven hits with six earned runs and six strikeouts across 5 2/3 frames in a 10-1 loss.
Singer seems to have fallen into the short-hook phase of the season. He’s failed to pitch into the sixth inning across five of his past six starts and has a tough one today against a somewhat struggling yet powerful Los Angeles Dodgers lineup.
Singer deploys a diet of sinkers and sliders; the slider is the most effective of the two, but he’s had difficulties getting outs recently and his .294 BABIP and struggles against lefties (4.74 xFIP) gives the L.A. sticks an edge.
The Dodgers boast the sixth-highest run differential in the game (+98) but lately they haven’t shown that; they’ve scored 24 runs across the first five games of this home-stand (15 in one game) but their .291 BABIP and .756 OPS against righties suggests that could change today.
Short stints on the bump are the soundtrack across five of Singers' last six starts. His road BABIP is too high and he meets a Dodgers offense with a BABIP of their own that is considerably higher than their team batting average. Singer doesn’t have the heat to blow the Dodgers’ left-handed bats away and his strikeout percentage is six points lower on the road than at home.
