At this point, about the only thing the ninth-seeded Chicago Bulls can chase down is a home date for the second and final play-in game.
Sitting 4.5 games back of both the Heat and Magic, Tuesday’s tilt against the woeful Detroit Pistons is a must. The books believe too, as they’ve pushed the Bulls to 12-point home favorites in the NBA odds.
Can Detroit — which played last night and lost in agonizing fashion in New York — offer any resistance in the Windy City? Read on for my free Pistons vs. Bulls preview, complete with free NBA picks.

Pistons vs Bulls predictions
It was a solid all-around effort for the Chicago Bulls last time out, completing a two-game regular season sweep of the Pelicans with a 114-106 win.
A team that commits just 12.4 turnovers per game on the year, which ranks second in the NBA, Chicago won the turnover battle, piling up 12 steals as part of 19 takeaways, which the Bulls converted into 20 points.
That snapped a two-game losing streak and sets the Bulls up for the Detroit Pistons before staring down three consecutive playoff teams: Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Sacramento.
They get a Pistons side coming off a brutal 113-111 loss to the Knicks on Monday in a game marred by a no-call that destroyed a potential Detroit win, instead sending them to a sixth straight loss.
After being on pace to be one of the worst teams in NBA history, the Pistons are now just plain bad. Their 4-25 road record is the worst in basketball and they’ve lost five straight away from home.
This is the third game of a four-game season series. Chicago most recently won 119-109 on November 12.
However, it’s hard to trust Chicago, who hasn’t been tabbed as a double-digit favorite all season. While the Bulls are 7-3 against the spread vs. Detroit in the last 10, the Pistons have gone 2-2 ATS in the last four.
They’re also 5-5 ATS playing on the second night of back-to-backs. I’m confident Chicago wins, but (gulp) I think Detroit can hang here.
My best bet: Pistons +12 (-114 at FanDuel)
Pistons vs Bulls same-game parlay
Not sure how the books came to this number, but a DeMar DeRozan scoring line of 22.5 points seems low.
On the other end of the spectrum is Chicago's breakout darling Coby White, who has upped his scoring average of 9.7 a season ago to his current mark of 19.5.
While the games against the Pistons were early on in the year before the fourth-year star really started cooking, White has tallied just 16 points total in two games against the Pistons this season.
If the Bulls spread the ball around like they did last game, White should fall right around his season average and below this total.

The total climbed as high as 230 points, but most books have scaled back, keeping the line at around 227.5 — fitting for two teams in the Bottom 10 in scoring.
Detroit has one winning record this season, their O/U record, which is eighth-best in the league at 31-24-1. The Bulls are right up near them, with the Over going 30-26-1 in their games.
