My analysis
The Central Michigan Chippewas offense has stalled.
An injury to CMU starting quarterback Joe Labas has sent a relatively high-scoring Chips offense on a downward spiral. Since losing Labas, CMU has scored 20 points across its last two games, and those struggles will likely continue Tuesday.
Frosh QB Tyler Jefferson is a gifted runner, and the young man has a big arm, but his accuracy is wanting. He’s completing fewer than 47% of his passes, including a measly 14% last Wednesday against Bowling Green.
The Chips might have some success rushing the football against the Toledo Rockets. They rank fourth in the MAC in rushing yards per game (184 ypg), and Jefferson and senior RB Marion Lukes can cause some good trouble.
The problem with the Chips' current offense is that they are up against a Rockets stop unit that surrenders only 137 rushing yards per game and nine rushing TDs this season. They are stingy and rank 17th nationally in tackles for a loss.
Labas ran the show at CMU, but the Chips' offense appears lost without him under center. The Chips have tried every signal-caller in their room but can’t move the chains through the air. The way to attack the Rockets defense is to throw the football. Jefferson’s arm is big, but his lack of accuracy will make it difficult for the Chippewas to score 17+
Central Michigan vs Toledo same-game parlay (SGP)
Toledo's extra four days of preparation for a home game against a struggling offense will pay off.
It will be a chilly night in Toledo, but that won’t stop the Rockets’ aerial show from putting in work. Toledo leads the MAC in passing yards per game (261), which should negate a stout CMU defense with the seventh-most tackles for a loss.
The passing will help the Rockets cover the alternate number, and the Chips' offensive woes will keep this game Under the overall number. Toledo will slow the Chips' offense to a crawl, and the CMU defense is more than capable of preventing Toledo from running up the score.
