My analysis
The Philadelphia Eagles have flipped the script a bit to become more of a running team this season. After passing on nearly 55% of their plays last year, the Eagles’ passing play percentage of 45.42% is the lowest in the league through nine weeks.
The addition of Saquon Barkley to an already stacked offense of weapons has definitely helped that, as has Jalen Hurts taking care of the football under center.
After throwing a career-high 15 interceptions last year — matching his total from the previous two years combined — Hurts has thrown just four interceptions through eight games this season. They all came in the first three weeks of the year with two of them in the opener against the Packers. After having just three touchdown passes to those four interceptions through three games, he’s racked up seven passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns with no interceptions and just one fumble lost.
Hurts has seen his passing attempts dip from 30 or more in all four games before the bye week to 25, 13, 20, and 24 in the last four weeks. He’s taking care of the football and making a run for it when he has to.
The Eagles QB did not throw an interception in either game against the Dallas Cowboys last season or in his lone matchup in 2022. Dallas also hasn’t done a great job of creating turnovers with just four interceptions this season, all coming in the first four weeks against Deshaun Watson, Derek Carr, and Daniel Jones.
