Sunday’s lone NHL matchup features a Pacific Division tilt with the Vancouver Canucks hosting the Anaheim Ducks. NHL odds have Vancouver as a massive -450 favorite while the total sits at 6.

The Under has been the bet to make when these two teams have squared off over the past couple of seasons, cashing in each of the past five meetings. There were five or fewer total goals scored in all five of those outings.

Will we see another low-scoring affair, or can the goals pick up? Find out in my free NHL picks for Ducks vs. Canucks on Sunday, March 31.

Ducks vs Canucks predictions

There have been six or fewer total goals scored in 11 of the Vancouver Canucks’ past 12 games, including a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. I believe we will get a similarly low-scoring game once again on Sunday.

First, this blueline has done a tremendous job at suppressing high-danger scoring chances, ranking seventh in the league in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60). Subsequently, the Canucks also rank in the top six in both goals allowed per game and shots on goal allowed per game.

Backing up this tremendous defense is goaltender Arturs Silovs, who is projected to guard the cage for Vancouver on Sunday. It will be his first start of the campaign, which is why we may be catching the Under 6 here at plus-money.

With that said, Silovs posted a .908 SV% and 2.75 GAA through five appearances in the crease last year. He also boasts a .907 SV% and 2.74 GAA through 33 starts at the AHL level.

Meanwhile, the Canucks’ offense has cooled down mightily, averaging just 2.5 goals scored over their past 12 games. This regression has been predictable given that they rank in the bottom half of the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60).

The offense could continue to struggle against goaltender Lukas Dostal, who is scheduled to start between the pipes for the Ducks. Through three career starts against Vancouver, Dostal boasts a .921 SV% and 2.70 GAA.

There were five or fewer total goals scored in all three of those games.

My best bet: Under 6 (+100 at Sports Interaction)

Ducks vs Canucks same-game parlay

Under 6.5

Canucks moneyline

This same-game parlay not only buys another half-goal but is also a way to back a -450 favorite at plus-money. I mentioned Dostal’s previous success against Vancouver, and despite his efforts, Anaheim lost all three of those games.

While the difference between goaltenders may not warrant this -450 price tag, the gap between these offenses and defenses certainly does. This season, the Canucks rank higher than the Ducks in all the following categories: goals scored per game, shots on goal per game, power play percentage, shooting percentage, faceoff percentage, goals allowed per game, shots on goal allowed per game, penalty kill percentage, and penalty minutes taken per game.

That is pretty much every single stat category in hockey, and Vancouver boasts the advantage across the board.

Ducks vs Canucks moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • Vancouver opened as a -450 favorite and remains at that price as of Sunday afternoon..
  • I don’t think we will see this line go any longer as that is almost as big as it gets in an NHL game, especially with Silovs garnering his first start of the season.
  • The Under 6 is at plus-money because of that uncertainty with Silovs, but he has proven he can compete at a high level in both the AHL and NHL.
  • The Canucks have won each of the past six meetings between these two teams.
