Flames vs Avalanche Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Morgan Frost is in an advantageous position skating alongside Flames wingers Yegor Sharangovich and Martin Pospisil, helping boost his shots on goal. This will serve him well tonight against the Avalanche.

The Calgary Flames host the Colorado Avalanche at the Scotiabank Saddledome in a pivotal Western Conference showdown on Thursday, February 6.

Colorado and Calgary sit in the two wild-card spots ahead of tonight’s tilt, and my Avalanche vs. Flames predictions are headlined by new Calgary center Morgan Frost.

Let's dive in with my NHL picks ahead of this 9 p.m. ET puck drop.

My Flames pick
Morgan Frost Over 1.5 shots (-135 at BET99)

My Flames analysis

The Calgary Flames landed a solid middle-six center in Morgan Frost, and he’s been positioned for success skating with wingers Martin Pospisil and Yegor Sharangovich. It’s also been a solid line for Calgary, with the trio driving possession with a 57.5 Corsi For percentage and 61.3% shot share at 5-on-5.

Frost has also been skating with the No. 1 power-play unit, which has helped him pick up nine shots — three on the PP — on 15 attempts through his first three games with the club.

I also value that Frost hasn’t been lining up opposite the opposition’s top scorers to start his Calgary tenure, with Flames centers Nazem Kadri and Mikael Backlund handling those tougher assignments.

Additionally, Pospisil and Sharangovich aren’t high-volume shooters and respectively rank sixth and seventh in shots per 60 on the team at 5-on-5, and they’ve combined for just five shots to Frost’s six at 5-on-5 across the past three contests.

The Colorado Avalanche don’t check out as a favorable matchup for opposition shooters on the surface, but the Avs have a top-heavy lineup jumping the boards, and I think Frost will see the softer on-ice matchups with Kadri and Backlund going against the top Avalanche scorers and defense pairs most of the night.

Flames vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)

Flames +1.5 puck line

Under 6.5

Morgan Frost Over 1.5 shots

Both starting goalies have been solid this season, with Flames starter Dustin Wolf sporting a .929 save percentage and 2.16 GAA on home, and Avs No. 1 Mackenzie Blackwood posting respective .926 and 2.04 marks since joining the club.

As a result, I’m anticipating a close, low-scoring result.

Additionally, Calgary has been solid on home ice this season with a 16-9-3 record, including winning 25 of their last 45 games at home (+2.20 Units / 4% ROI). The highway also hasn’t been as kind to Colorado.

The Avalanche are 15-12 on the road this season, and they’ve only covered the puck line in 43 of their last 98 games (-14.30 Units / -11% ROI).
