The Winnipeg Jets and Carolina Hurricanes have been among the best teams in hockey over the past two months. However, Winnipeg has been slightly more efficient as it ranks fourth in the league in xGF% over that stretch, while Carolina ranks fifth.
While this is a small but notable gap, the larger disparity between these two teams lies in goaltending. Connor Hellebuyck is slated to guard the cage for the Jets, and not only is he a shoo-in to win the Vezina Trophy for the second consecutive year, but he could also become the first goaltender to win the Hart Trophy since Carey Price in 2014-15.
Through 48 starts this season, he's 37-8-3 with a .927 SV% and 1.99 GAA. Meanwhile, Frederik Andersen is slated to start across the ice for the Hurricanes.
Carolina also regressed through the moves it made at the trade deadline, losing present value while adding future value by (through multiple deals) losing Martin Necas and acquiring Logan Stankoven.

Carolina opened as a -128 favorite and has since moved to -123. Meanwhile, the total opened at 5.5 and hasn’t moved. Considering the goaltending battle, I'd be surprised if this number rises to 6 before puck drop.
