Oilers vs Sabres Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Leon Draisaitl has been running hot lately and is the favaorite to take home the Hart Trophy. Expect that dominance to continue against a bad Buffalo defense.

The Edmonton Oilers have gone through some peaks and valleys of late but Leon Draisaitl has remained consistent through it all, scoring almost nightly.

My Oilers vs. Sabres predictions expect the good fortune to continue for Draisaitl against one of the league’s worst goal prevention teams.

Let’s dive deeper with my NHL picks for March 10.

Oilers vs Sabres prediction

My Oilers pick
Leon Draisaitl anytime goalscorer (-105 at BET99)

My Oilers analysis
Leon Draisaitl has found the back of the net in eight of the past 10 games, scoring nine goals along the way. The only opponents he didn’t score against during that span were the Stars and Hurricanes, who both rank Top 6 in points and are exceptional at limiting goals.

The Buffalo Sabres aren’t as well equipped to slow Draisaitl down. They’ve struggled to keep the puck out all year long, allowing more goals per game than all but the Sharks and Penguins. Buffalo’s defense has made too many mistakes and the goaltending hasn’t shown the ability to mask them.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and James Reimer own sub .900 save percentages and — along with Devon Levi, who was demoted early in the year — are responsible for the team slotting 31st in SV%.

Shaky defense and poor goaltending is a recipe for disaster heading into a game against Draisaitl. He's been a model of consistency, scoring in 60% of his appearances and only going 2+ games without a goal five times the entire season.

Keeping him off the scoreboard once is extremely difficult and he often gets back on the horse quickly. Look for that trend to continue in Buffalo.

Oilers vs Sabres same-game parlay (SGP)

Leon Draisaitl anytime goalscorer

Josh Norris Over 1.5 shots

Over 5.5

The Oilers have allowed the third-most shots to centers over the last 10 games and give up a lot of shots in the middle of the ice. That’s where Norris operates and generates most of his volume.

Norris played more than 20 minutes in his Sabres debut and was given the keys to the car, playing on the top line and top power-play unit. He'll be given a healthy dose of minutes in this game and will have plenty of opportunity to capitalize on what looks to be a nice positional matchup.

There should be plenty of fireworks offensively as both teams rank Bottom 5 in save percentage since the 4 Nations tournament. The Over has cashed in seven of the last 10 Oilers games. They’re often forced to score in bunches to compensate for shaky goaltending.

The Sabres have played in track meets all season long, as evidenced by their sparkling 35-20-7 O/U record. When these teams met in January, they traded chances and combined for 75 shots in a very high-event affair. I’d expect no different tonight.
