The Winnipeg Jets begin their final road trip of the regular season this Thursday with a matchup against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Oddsmakers list Dallas as a -130 favorite, with the total set at 5.5 goals.

Winnipeg has won three of the past four meetings between these two teams, a trend I expect to continue as I explain in my Jets vs. Stars predictions and NHL picks for April 10.

Jets vs Stars prediction

My Jets pick: Jets moneyline (+115 at Pinnacle)

My Jets analysis
The Dallas Stars have dropped each of their past three games, and this slide is likely to continue against the Winnipeg Jets. Analytically speaking, Dallas has been one of the worst teams in hockey over the past two months, ranking 24th in expected goals for percentage (xGF%).

The Stars’ main issue is their inability to suppress high-danger scoring chances. Over that same stretch, they rank last in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

These defensive woes are likely to be a problem against Winnipeg, a team that ranks in the top half of the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) over the past two months. While Dallas has been the worst defensive team, the Jets have been the best, ranking first in xGA/60.

Not only does Winnipeg possess the stronger team, but it also boasts the clear goaltending edge with Connor Hellebuyck slated to start Thursday. Looking to become the first goaltender to win the Hart Trophy since Carey Price in 2014-15, Hellebuyck enters this matchup with a 44-12-3 record, .924 SV% and 2.02 GAA.

He leads the NHL in all three categories. That success is likely to continue against the Stars, a team Hellebuyck has a .928 SV% against over the past eight meetings.

Jets vs Stars odds analysis

Dallas opened as a -130 favorite. The line is likely to come down, based on the aforementioned metrics.

The total opened at 5.5. The juice favors the Over, but with Hellebuyck in net, it would be shocking if the market pushes this line to 6.
