Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

Blue Jays bats will be champing at the bit to square off against Red Sox righty Nick Pivetta, who has seen a surge in home runs against him over his last several starts. This should bode well for the visitors and especially Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

After wrapping up the rest of a game that started on June 26 and was postponed by weather, the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox will play a nightcap tonight at Fenway Park.

My Blue Jays vs. Red Sox predictions like how Toronto's bats match up with the suddenly home run-prone Nick Pivetta, and this dictates both of our angles.

Read on for my best MLB picks on Monday, August 26.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox prediction

My best bet
Blue Jays moneyline (+135 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

The Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up a seven-game homestand in style, putting together a four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels, punctuated with an 8-2 thumping on Sunday.

A Bottom-10 team in runs scored, Toronto upped the output against the Halos, averaging better than five runs per game. Over the last week, Toronto's offense led the majors in slugging and OPS thanks, in part, to 16 home runs.

Tonight, they hand the ball to Jose Berrios, who has been dealing, winning his last three starts. Berrios is coming off a 10-3 win over the Reds, where he allowed just two runs and struck out seven over seven innings. He’s gone seven innings in each of his last three starts, allowing four total earned runs.

He’ll be squaring off with a Boston Red Sox side that just got swept at home by the Arizona Diamondbacks after mustering just eight runs across the three-game set. The reeling BoSox have now dropped five of their last seven games as a result.

Their pitching has not been getting it done either, as the Red Sox own the fifth-worst ERA over the past two weeks at 5.53. Teams have been hitting .273 while teeing off for 21 homers in that stretch. They’re hoping for a better showing from Nick Pivetta, who was creamed against the Astros in his last start, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over five innings.

Pivetta hasn’t gone longer than five frames in any of his three August starts, sporting an ugly 6.14 ERA.

Boston has dominated this matchup in 2024, winning four of the previous five, but Toronto is aiming for its season-best fifth straight win, sporting the right pitcher and a (finally) potent offense to turn things around.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 home runs (+325 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finished off his set with the Angels strong, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI after going yard on Saturday.

Guerrero’s team-leading 27 HR and 85 RBI are both Top-15 figures, and he has a favorable matchup to add to those numbers.

Pivetta has been one of the most prolific pitchers to be taken yard this season, surrendering 23 homers on the year. He’s quickly been climbing the charts, surrendering two dingers in each of his last five.

Vladdy has faced Pivetta the most of any Blue Jay and has a team-best three home runs in 34 ABs against him.

He’s gone deep in three of his last four series and has been one of baseball’s hottest hitters in the past month — second in average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS, all just below Yankees star Aaron Judge.
