My analysis
London got to see what many have been witnessing stateside for weeks: the Philadelphia Phillies are the real deal.
The highest-scoring team in the majors rung up a 7-2 win over the New York Mets on Saturday. Philadelphia’s bats have been solid throughout the season, ranking sixth or better in average, on-base percentage, slugging, and OPS.
It might only be bested by their top-tier pitching, which held New York to just a pair of runs despite allowing 10 hits. As a team, they’re putting up a crisp 2.90 ERA and feature a bullpen with a 0.87 ERA over the last few weeks.
The Mets have just nine wins in their last 27 games, and of those, they’ve needed to score six runs or more to secure those wins. Over the last 30 days, New York holds the third-worst ERA in baseball at 4.96, having surrendered the most runs in baseball at 152.
Lefty Jose Quintana takes the bump for the Mets in this one as he looks to improve on his 5.17 ERA. He’s given up three earned runs in each of his last three outings, which included coughing up five home runs.
The Phillies have now won five of the last six meetings and should be in command on getaway day.

Nick Castellanos delivered again for the Phillies, drilling a solo homer in their win Saturday in London. The veteran slugger has homered in back-to-back games, but he’s also picked up two or more total bases in six of his last seven games. Drawing Quintana next, Castellanos boasts a pair of dingers and a triple against the southpaw.
Let’s wrap this SGP with Castellanos teammate Bryce Harper, who had a big day in London, going 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. Harper now has hits in six of his last eight games, and I expect that to continue on Sunday.
