The Baltimore Orioles will try to start the second half of the season on a strong note as they visit the Texas Rangers for the start of a three-game series on Friday night.
The Orioles (58-38) dropped five of their last six heading into the All-Star Break, but still lead the AL East and are favored tonight in the MLB odds over the Rangers (46-50), who are looking to surge back into playoff contention.

My analysis
The Baltimore Orioles are one of the favorites to win the World Series this year, and even a small skid before the All-Star Break hasn’t changed that perception. A team that won 101 games last year looks to be even better in 2024, thanks in large part to a young lineup continuing to mature and improve.
There’s one other factor in Baltimore’s improvement this season: the acquisition of Corbin Burnes, the former Cy Young Award winner who the Orioles got in a trade with the Brewers. Burnes has been the ace the Orioles were looking for, going 9-4 with a 2.43 ERA in his first 19 starts for Baltimore. If it weren’t for the outstanding year that Detroit’s Tarik Skubal is putting together, Burnes would be the favorite for the AL Cy Young.
Burnes has not only been good, but consistent. He’s allowed more than three runs only once this season, giving up four earned in seven innings to Houston last month. Since the beginning of June, he’s 4-2 with a 2.54 ERA and a 1.043 WHIP, right in line with his numbers for the season. That stretch includes allowing just one run on nine hits over seven innings in an 11-2 win over the Texas Rangers on June 27.
Although Nathan Eovaldi has been one of the few bright spots for Texas, Baltimore's lineup has been one of the best in the league this year, putting up 4.94 runs per game.
Meanwhile, Texas has been merely league-average offensively. Burnes has already shown he can handle the Rangers, and I expect him to do so again, outdueling Eovaldi to start the second half strong for the Orioles.

I like the Orioles to win in a pitching duel tonight, which makes it fairly easy to form a same-game parlay. To start, I’m taking Baltimore on the money line, and adding in a bet on the Under, even at a modest total of 7.5 runs.
The final leg for my SGP will be taking Burnes to record at least five strikeouts tonight. The Rangers make good contact, but Burnes is remarkably consistent, having struck out at least five batters in each of his last 10 starts.
