Kevin Gausman and Michael Lorenzen can match wits, especially against two inconsistent offenses, and our Rangers vs. Blue Jays predictions see the lineups doing little damage today.

The Toronto Blue Jays snapped the Texas Rangers’ five-game win streak on Friday but face an even bigger challenge this afternoon as they go up against Michael Lorenzen.

Toronto sends their own ace to the mound in Kevin Gausman, and though he hasn’t been at the top of his game for the past month or so, my Rangers vs. Blue Jays picks like a low-scoring game.

Find out more in my MLB picks for Saturday, July 27.

Rangers vs Blue Jays prediction

My best bet
Under 8.5 (-106 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Friday’s 6-5 win marked just the second time that the Toronto Blue Jays have scored at least six runs in a game during the second half, with the club averaging a lowly 3.71 runs per contest over that span, and I expect another low-scoring outing against the Texas Rangers today.

Michael Lorenzen is set to start for the Rangers, and the right-hander has been a model of consistency all year. Lorenzen last pitched on July 22 against the White Sox, allowing six hits and two earned runs over five innings in a no-decision.

Lorenzen has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in nine of his last 12 starts and should be able to make easy work of a Jays team that’s struggled to produce offense in the second half.

Meanwhile, Kevin Gausman will aim to get his game back on track for the Blue Jays and this could be the perfect matchup for him to do just that. Texas’ bats have been lackluster of late as well, scoring four runs or fewer in six of eight games since the All-Star break.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+122 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Although Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did represent the Blue Jays at the All-Star Game, the slugger seemed to enjoy the time off as he’s come back on fire to start the second half. Vlad has recorded at least one hit in all seven games since the break as well as a team-leading seven RBI and .435 batting average.

Guerrero Jr. has gone two games without driving in a run — his longest stretch since a three-game span from July 7-10 — so chances are he picks up another RBI this afternoon.
