Two of the top seeds in the College Basketball Invitational will face off for the tournament title as the High Point Panthers battle the Seattle Redhawks on Wednesday night at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

High Point (27-8) came into the CBI as the top overall seed and survived to beat the Arkansas State Red Wolves 81-80 in the semifinals. Seattle (22-14) is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and eased past the Fairfield Stags 75-58 in its semifinal matchup.

These two teams look to be evenly matched in the college basketball odds, which should lead to an exciting championship game. We’ll break down how bettors should approach this contest in our free college basketball picks for High Point vs. Seattle on March 27.

High Point vs Seattle picks and predictions

It’s rare to find a game in which two teams rate out so similarly. KenPom has Seattle ranked 107th in the country, exactly one spot ahead of High Point.

That said, these teams are far from mirror images of each other. While the Panthers get by with an explosive offense that covers for some shoddy play on the defensive end, Seattle plays a slower game and has a level of defensive efficiency that ultimately gives the program an upper hand.

The Redhawks are holding opponents to just 41.3% shooting from the field, and an impressive 29.8% from beyond the arc. In fact, only one opponent has scored more than 80 points against the Redhawks in their last 12 games.

While Seattle isn’t known for its offense, it does have a few weapons at its disposal. Senior guard Cameron Tyson is averaging 17.5 ppg to pace the team, while both Alex Schumacher (13.3 ppg) and John Christofilis (13.1 ppg) are reasonably consistent double-digit scoring threats. All three can shoot from downtown and are solid at the free-throw line.

That will be important against the Panthers. High Point gives up 19.7 free throws per game, one of the worst figures in the country. It also allows opponents to shoot at a 33.5% clip from 3-point range.

High Point has also played a weak schedule this year, while Seattle hails from the Western Athletic Conference, a true mid-major league. The Redhawks scored a win over a strong Grand Canyon Lopes team in the regular season and took the Washington Huskies to double overtime before falling by a point.

That track record gives me more confidence in Seattle for tonight's CBI Final. I also have far more faith in a defensive-minded team than one that lets opponents score at will.

This will be a tight one, but the Redhawks are the team to bet on tonight.

My best bet: Seattle -1.5 (-105 at FanDuel)

High Point vs Seattle same-game parlay

Seattle -1.5

Seattle first half moneyline

Under 151.5

The Seattle defense should lead the Redhawks to victory tonight, and that’s what I’m banking on in my same-game parlay. I’m picking Seattle to cover the modest spread, but also taking the Under at 151.5 points, as I believe the Redhawks will do enough to contain a capable High Point attack.

Finally, I’m throwing in a bet on Seattle to win the first half outright. Even if High Point can get back into the game later, Seattle’s defense should give them a lot to think about in the first half.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
