Auburn vs Georgia Prediction, Picks, Odds, and Best Bet Today: Beck & Co. Maintain Aggressive Approach

Although last week saw the Bulldogs fall in Tuscaloosa, their second-half aerial assault on offense should carry over into Saturday's SEC showdown in Athens.

Although the Georgia Bulldogs’ 42-game regular-season winning streak ended last weekend, the SEC juggernauts will start another such streak when they face the Auburn Tigers this afternoon.

As counterintuitive as it may sound, the Bulldogs looked like a better product in their loss to Alabama last weekend. My Auburn vs. Georgia predictions will trust the Bulldogs to keep that improved form, as my college football picks seek an early reward to avoid any backdoor touchdown worries.

This approach should put some cash in our accounts shortly after kickoff at 3:30 ET on Saturday, October 5.

My analysis
Trailing 30-7, Georgia opened the second half against Alabama with a three-and-out that lost 11 yards. The Bulldogs looked absolutely lost.

However, their next six drives featured four touchdowns, with the two others stopped only by foolish turnovers in part the results of Georgia’s desperation. Then again, that panic can also be credited with producing those four scores and turning that rout into drama.

Desperation was the spur to innovation that the Bulldogs’ offense desperately needed. Just a week ago, things could be said like, “Georgia’s offensive woes are real, we have seen them,” while pointing out that the Bulldogs succeeded on only 37% of their rush attempts in the first three weeks of the season.

In Georgia’s final four drives, starting when trailing 33-15 in the fourth quarter, exactly three runs were called. There was obvious reason for that, needing to score three times to take a lead on Alabama, but it was no coincidence that abandoning the run sparked the most success the Bulldogs have enjoyed this season.

And of those three rush attempts, two of them came at the goal line. The other gained 12 yards on a 3rd-and-2.

Georgia had no choice but to trust its receivers, and that led to success. That type of offensive game plan should carry over against Auburn, especially since the Tigers’ defense is lackluster in all regards.

Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has always been happy to play conservatively and trust his defense, but last week showed that Georgia needs to cut loose with its offense to produce anything at all. When the Bulldogs play conservatively these days, they fail too often.

Expect Georgia to remain aggressive offensive, as the alternative has already proven too costly.

Auburn vs Georgia same-game parlay (SGP)

Georgia -23.5

Georgia team total Over 38.5

Carson Beck 250+ passing yards

While BetMGM does not allow first-half bets to be included in a same-game parlay, it adjusts the spread in our favor when it comes to the SGP-specific offerings. Getting the spread below the key number of 24 lessens the worry of a backdoor cover from Auburn.

Beck threw for 306 yards on 24 pass attempts in last week’s second half against arguably the best-passing defense in the country. Auburn is weakest against the pass, so Beck should continue that surge. In doing so, Georgia should pile up the points.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
