Canucks vs Islanders Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Elias Pettersson & Co. put together one of their best efforts on home ice this season when last seen, and our NHL betting picks believe the Canucks will be able to do something similar when the mediocre Islanders pay a visit on Thursday.

It took the Vancouver Canucks seven games to get to two home wins. They now look to go back-to-back when they host the New York Islanders this Thursday night at Rogers Arena.

After putting together their best defensive effort in front of the home fans, my Canucks vs. Islanders predictions and NHL picks are calling for a follow-up effort against the offensively-challenged Isles.

My Canucks analysis

After allowing at least three goals in five of six home games, the Vancouver Canucks allowed a single tally in a 3-1 win over the Flames Tuesday night.

Kevin Lankinen bounced back from his worst outing of the year in a 7-3 drubbing at the hands of the Oilers, stopping 28 shots to move to 8-1-2 on the year, bringing his GAA against down to 2.46.

It’s still unclear whether Lankinen gets the call for a sixth straight start, but even if Vancouver turns to Arturs Silovs between the pipes, they should enjoy an advantage against the Isles.

The New York Islanders are 26th in the NHL in scoring, potting just 2.5 goals per game, and have been shutout four times already this season, though they’ve been a little better of late. They’ve lost back-to-back overtime games, including Tuesday’s 4-3 OT loss in Edmonton to kick off a five-game road trip.

The Isles are getting no help from their special teams, with the powerplay producing at a paltry 9.1% clip, which ranks third-worst in the NHL. It doesn’t get any easier on the West Coast, where the Canucks are killing penalties at a Top 7 rate (87.5%).

Vancouver will not have the services of top goal scorer Brock Boeser (upper body) for a third straight game, but Elias Pettersson has been filling the void. He has a goal and an assist in back-to-back games and has tallied three times in the last four. He’s picked up three goals in his last three games against the Isles.

The Canucks have also won three straight in this head-to-head and six of the last eight overall. The current trends point to Vancouver picking up a fourth straight over New York.

Canucks vs Islanders Over/Under analysis

At 2-2-3, the Canucks are tied with the Chicago Blackhawks for the fewest home wins in the Western Conference. But the Isles are just 4-5 SU on the road this year.

The Over has cashed in eight straight Islanders vs. Canucks games. The Islanders’ Over record is 3-0-1 across their last four contests.
