Canucks vs Panthers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Canucks have struggled on home ice, which is why we're not backing the moneyline, but scoring shouldn't be a problem for either side tonight.

With three losses in their last four, things don’t get any easier for the Vancouver Canucks as they host the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers tonight at Rogers Arena.

Florida, first in the Atlantic and battling for the East’s top seed, is a road favorite, but my Canucks vs. Panthers predictions like Vancouver to hang tight while clearing the total.

Let's get into our full NHL picks for this clash with the puck set to drop at 10 p.m. ET on Sportsnet Pacific.

My Canucks analysis

After opening their six-game homestand with a win, the Vancouver Canucks have dropped two straight, the latest a 4-3 OT loss to the St. Louis Blues.

That drops Vancouver to a pedestrian 4-6-4 at home this season, tied for the fewest home wins in the NHL.

The formula for success is simple: when they hold teams to three goals or less at Rogers Arena, the Canucks are 4-0-1. When allowing four goals or more, Vancouver has yet to win.

Vancouver owns the third-worst goals against in the NHL at home, surrendering 3.86 goals per game.

Keeping goals out will be tough against the Florida Panthers, who enter as a Top-5 scoring team, pumping out 3.66 goals per contest.

It’s their second stop on a five-game road trip, and Florida is rolling, having reeled off six wins in the last seven, with only an OT loss to the Penguins as a blemish.

Their 2-1 shootout win over Seattle last time out is the outlier of the bunch. The Panthers’ other five wins have been by at least two goals, and they filled the net at least five times in four of those wins.

However, the Panthers tend to be a little loose on the defensive end, as they are tied for 22nd with a 3.17 goals-against average on the year, just a couple of spots better than the Canucks.

Vancouver is just outside the Top 10 in offense, putting up 3.26 goals per contest. If they intend to snap this mini-funk, they need to keep pace with Florida’s offensive attack.

It all adds up to a lot of goals on Thursday night.

Canucks vs Panthers Odds analysis

Vancouver has won three straight against the Panthers, with two of the wins as moneyline underdogs.

The Canucks have cashed the Over in five of their last seven contests.

In their last five as a moneyline favorite, the Panthers are 4-1. In its last seven as moneyline favorites against the Canucks, Florida is 5-2.
