Jets vs Avalanche Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Colorado has plenty of offensive weapons, but Connor Hellebuyck will be able to neutralize them and lead his team to a road win.

The 5-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Monday was arguably the worst game of the season from the Winnipeg Jets, and it’s a quick turnaround to face the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena on Wednesday, January 22.

Winnipeg stands to both rebound and take advantage of a top-heavy Colorado lineup. My Jets vs. Avalanche predictions and NHL picks expect the road underdogs to bark loudest in tonight’s Central Division showdown.

My Jets analysis
The Winnipeg Jets blanked the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 in their most recent meeting at the Canada Life Centre on Saturday, January 11. Most impressively, Winnipeg held Colorado to just four high-danger scoring chances and only three at 5-on-5.

It will be a different story tonight with Colorado head coach Jared Bednar having the luxury of last change, and the Avs could have winger Valeri Nichushkin (lower body) back in the fold following a 10-game absence.

Still, Winnipeg is ripe for a rebound showing, and I’m not anticipating Colorado goalie Mackenzie Blackwood continuing his sterling stretch between the pipes.

Blackwood sports an unsustainable .928 SV%, 1.97 GAA, and 0.92 goals saved above average per 60 minutes.

Add his .879 high-danger save percentage to the mix, and the 28-year-old netminder is eyeing serious statistical correction, considering he posted a .900 SV%, -0.11 GSAA/60, and .817 high-danger SV% across his previous 85 starts with the Devils and Sharks before joining the Avs in mid-December.

The negative regression has already begun to kick in, with Blackwood allowing seven goals on just 54 shots (.870 SV%) in consecutive losses.

Returning to Winnipeg, Jets No. 1 Connor Hellebuyck is leading the way in the Vezina Trophy odds with a spectacular .926 SV%, 2.12 GAA, and 0.74 GSAA/60, and I’m expecting him to play a leading role in a Jets win again tonight.

Jets vs Avalanche odds analysis

There has been a small move to the Winnipeg side of this moneyline at Pinnacle, with the shop opening Jets +120 and adjusting to +114 as of Wednesday morning. Winnipeg has been a profitable moneyline team dating back to last season, and Colorado hasn’t had the same home-ice dominance as years past (14-10-1), so the movement isn’t surprising.

This total dropped from the opening 6.0 (-105/-138) at Pinnacle to 5.5 shortly after opening. I’m not surprised, considering two of the first three meetings between the Central Division rivals went Under the number.

Additionally, Colorado has played to the Under in six of its past nine games.
