Kyle Connor has been a huge reason behind the Jets' flying start, and our NHL picks fully expect him to tally a goal vs. the Red Wings' suspect defense on Wednesday evening.

The Detroit Red Wings host the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday evening at Little Caesars Arena. NHL odds have Winnipeg as a -140 favorite, while the total sits at 6.

My Jets vs. Red Wings prediction is targeting a player prop for Kyle Connor, who is off to a torrid start this season.

Read on for my NHL picks for Wednesday, October 30.

My Jets analysis

The Winnipeg Jets possess the best record in the NHL, which is a product of an offense that is firing on all cylinders. This season, Winnipeg ranks in the Top 2 of the league in goals scored per game, shots on goal per game, power play percentage, and shooting percentage.

Leading the way is star forward Kyle Connor, who has netted eight goals through the first nine games. He’s been practically automatic, and it’s worth backing that trend to continue on Wednesday evening.

Not only does Connor skate on the first line alongside Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi, but he also serves as the primary triggerman on the first power play unit. It is on special teams where Connor has particularly thrived, notching half of his goals on the man-advantage.

That is the main reason why I am targeting him to score once again in this matchup against the Detroit Red Wings, considering that they rank in the bottom half of the league in both penalty minutes taken per game and penalty-kill percentage. Connor has scored seven goals over the past nine meetings between these two clubs.

Backing up Detroit is goaltender Alex Lyon, who is confirmed to start between the pipes on Wednesday. After a tremendous start to the campaign, Lyon surrendered four goals against the Buffalo Sabres, which should serve as the beginning of the expected regression.

Jets vs Red Wings Over/Under analysis

Winnipeg opened as a -135 favorite and has since been bet up to -140. This line movement makes sense, considering that it outranks Detroit in expected goal differential per 60 minutes.

The total opened at 6 and remains at that number as of Wednesday morning. I don’t think we will see much movement off this total, given that both offenses are strong but are going against capable goaltenders in Connor Hellebuyck and Alex Lyon.
