My Leafs analysis
It’s time to re-ignite the rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins. This will be the fourth installment of the Buds vs. the B’s this year, with the Leafs claiming two out of three wins.
One constant in all three of the three prior games between the two clubs was a Matthew Knies goal. He’s got eight total points against Boston this season, including a hat trick in the last meeting back on January 4.
Knies hasn't hit the scoresheet in three straight games, so a tilt against the Bruins may be exactly what he needs to get back on track.
Boston hasn’t had a good year and the most glaring difference between this failed season and their past is their inability to keep the puck out of the net. The Bruins are giving up the ninth-most goals per game, allowing 3.17 per contest.
You could point to the lowly penalty kill, which ranks 24th in the NHL with just a 75.6% kill rate, as an obvious soft spot.
The Leafs' power play ranks No. 1 in the league since January 15. Knies is now part of the top PP unit, which gives him an even greater chance to get a point tonight.
Not to mention that Knies is saddled up on the first line next to Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, who have combined for nine points between the two of them through the first three meetings. That trio also ranks third in expected goals and actual goals among all lines who’ve played at least 250 minutes together at 5-on-5.
With the B’s expected to be without their top two defensemen in Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm, the Leafs should be able to take advantage of a bludgeoned Bruins blueline and find some success offensively.
Hopefully, Knies can be a beneficiary of that offense.
Maple Leafs vs Bruins same-game parlay (SGP)
For the first leg of the SGP, we’ll mirror the best bet with an anytime goal from Matthew Knies. He’s scored in all three meetings against the Bruins, totaling five tucks overall this season against the B’s.
Next up on the SGP, I’m targeting Bobby McMann’s shot prop and taking him to register 2+ on the night. The Bruins are giving up an average of 30 shots per game in February and McMann has hit this number in eight of his last 11 games.
We’ll stick with the shot prop for the final leg of our SGP and take William Nylander to register 2+ shots tonight. He’s hit this number in 13 of his last 15 outings.
