Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Winnipeg Jets has blossomed into quite a rivalry over the years, and it’ll be in full force tonight at MTS Centre.
The NHL odds have the Leafs as slight underdogs in tonight’s game as they head out on the road to face the 8-0 Jets. However, the Leafs have won five straight against their cross-country rival, primarily powered by goal-scoring success from Auston Matthews. My Maple Leafs vs. Jets predictions fully expect that to continue tonight.

My Leafs analysis
The Toronto Maple Leafs enter tonight’s game on a three-game losing streak after an uncharacteristic giveaway from Auston Matthews in overtime that cost the Buds the game against the Bruins.
I expect the Leafs captain to be itching to get back out on the ice tonight and make it up to his teammates with a big performance against the Winnipeg Jets, resulting in at least one goal tonight from Matthews.
The reason I like AM34 to find the back of the net tonight is threefold.
Firstly, the value is hard to pass up. It’s not often the three-time Rocket Richard odds winner can be had at even-money to score a goal. Yes, he’s playing a stingy Jets team with a Vezina-caliber goaltender in the net, but that hasn’t necessarily been an issue for him throughout his career.
This brings me to my second reason. The Leafs as a whole have had a lot of success against the Jets. It’s turned into a pretty fierce rivalry over the years, despite only playing each other twice a season. However, it’s been fairly one-sided of late, with the Leafs winning the last five in a row, scoring 4+ times in four of the five games.
A big reason for that success has been Matthews’ ability to find the back of the net in this matchup. The Leafs captain has 14 goals against Winnipeg throughout his career and has five goals over that five-game winning streak. He actually has a goal in five of the last six meetings between the two teams and seems to have Connor Hellebuyck’s number with 12 career goals on him through 19 games.
Thirdly, goals come in bunches for Matthews. That’s been his pattern for a few years now.
Even earlier this season, he went goalless through his first three games and rattled off a three-game goal streak afterward. Well, the two-time 60+ goal scorer found twine late in the game against Boston to force overtime. It was just this fourth of the year, and he should be looking to build off that, especially after his costly giveaway in overtime.
Maple Leafs vs Jets same-game parlay (SGP)
We’ll stick with my best bet as the first leg of the SGP tonight and take Matthews to score an anytime goal.
Keeping with the Matthews theme, I like him to get 3+ shots tonight as well. He’s averaging 4.66 shots per game and has hit this number in all but two games this year. Plus, the Jets have allowed 29+ shots in each of their last four games. So there’s opportunity to be had here.
Finally, we’ll finish off the parlay by taking the Over on the alternate total of 4.5 goals. Both goalies are playing well this season, allowing a combined 23 goals over 11 starts between the two netminders. However, we have seen at least five goals scored in nine of the last 10 meetings between the two clubs.
