Sabres vs Ducks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Goals have been hard to come by for opponents of both the Sabres and Ducks of late, and that's why our NHL expert picks for Friday night think the Under is a solid play in this tete-a-tete.

Are the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks both sneakily good? The Sabres have won five of their last seven games, while the Ducks come into tonight’s contest on a three-game winning streak.

Both teams are relatively hot right now thanks to their goaltending, so my Sabres vs. Ducks predictions and NHL picks for Thursday, November 22 favor the Under.

My analysis

While the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks aren’t necessarily known for their strength on the blue lines, they have both gotten very strong goaltending up to this point of the season.

As a team, the Ducks are allowing 3.00 goals against per game. The Sabres are just a tad below them, giving up 3.21 goals against. But Lukas Dostal and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen have been outstanding for their respective teams.

Believe it or not, Dostal is the current leader amongst goaltenders in goals saved above expected (+13.7) which is incredibly impressive. While Luukkonen isn’t as high, his number is still quite good as he boasts a +4.7 GSAx, which ranks him 17th.

Luukkonen is coming off of a 23-save shutout against the Los Angeles Kings, so his confidence should be high entering this game. In Dostal’s last start, he put up an excellent performance in a win on the road against the Dallas Stars, stopping 34 of 36 shots on goal.

The Ducks have been a bit inconsistent when it comes to scoring goals. They’ve tallied 13 goals over their last three games, but on the season they’re averaging 2.56 goals per game and have a 45.13% expected goals share.

The Sabres are outperforming as well, as they’re skating to a 2.84 xGF. But thet are scoring 3.19 goals per game, which suggests that they’re due for regression, which we saw in their most recent tilt.

Sabres vs Ducks same-game parlay (SGP)

No goal in the first 10 minutes

Sabres moneyline

Rasmus Dahlin 1+ points

The Sabres are scoring 0.95 goals on average in first periods this season and the Ducks are scoring 0.78 goals in the opening frame. Both goalies should get off to solid starts to this game.

The Ducks have been playing some fine hockey and actually find themselves four points back of a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, but they haven’t been that strong on home ice (4-5-0) and this feels like a bit of a letdown game for Anaheim.

Rasmus Dahlin is currently riding a seven-game point streak (four goals, six assists) and is on a tear in the month of November as he is tied with Zach Werenski and Quinn Hughes for points amongst defensemen. Dahlin looks to stay hot tonight.
