The Avs will test the Senators early and often, but Linus Ullmark will be up for the challenge.

The Ottawa Senators will look to return to the win column with a victory over the visiting Colorado Avalanche at the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday, March 20.

While this will be the second road game in consecutive nights for Colorado, my Avalanche vs. Senators predictions and NHL picks still expect Ottawa No. 1 Linus Ullmark to be busy between the pipes tonight.

Senators vs Avalanche prediction

My Senators pick: Linus Ullmark Over 25.5 saves (-129 at Pinnacle)

My Senators analysis
Underneath the solid 7-3-1 run from the Ottawa Senators out of the 4 Nations Face-Off is slipping 5-on-5 possession numbers and a dwindling overall shot suppression.

The Sens have surrendered the third-most shots per game (30.6) while ranking 24th with a 47.9 Corsi For percentage and 27th with a 46.1% shot share at 5-on-5 during the 11-game stretch. A date with the Colorado Avalanche isn’t likely to cure the dip, either.

Colorado ranks fifth in shots per game (29.7) while dominating 5-on-5 possession with a third-ranked 54.2 CF% and fourth-ranked 53.5% shot share, and the Avs have been even better out of the break with respective 30.8, 56.6% and 54.8% marks.

As a result, I anticipate Linus Ullmark to be busy again tonight, especially after the Avs registered 39 shots on 79 attempts in a losing cause Wednesday.

Of course, Ullmark has also been solid across his past five home starts with a .924 SV% and 2.61 GAA, including stopping 34 or more shots in three of the five.

Senators vs Avalanche odds analysis

There hasn’t been a meaningful move to this moneyline at Pinnacle. Colorado is in the noted tough back-to-back road spot, and the Avs haven’t traveled all too well, with an 18-15-1 record on the highway. Conversely, Ottawa has been tough at home (20-9-2).

This 6.0 total saw an immediate move to the Over. Pinnacle opened with a -102/-112 split, and the shop is now trading the 6.0 total at -109/-103. Ottawa enters with an active 7-1-1 record to the Over, so I’m not surprised to see the line move in that direction.
