The Toronto Blue Jays had their four-game win streak snapped on Saturday but will look to bounce back against the Pittsburgh Pirates as Chris Bassitt takes the mound.
My Jays vs. Pirates predictions focus on today's starting pitching matchup of Chris Bassitt vs. Quinn Priester.
Find out if Bassitt can deliver in my MLB picks for Pirates vs. Blue Jays on Sunday, June 2.
Pirates vs Blue Jays prediction
My best bet
Pirates team total Under 3.5 runs (-117 at PROLINE+)
My analysis
The Pittsburgh Pirates broke through offensively on Saturday with an 8-1 win thanks to a pair of two-run homers from Ke’Bryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds as they snapped the Toronto Blue Jays’ four-game win streak. It also marked Pittsburgh’s first win against Toronto in their last 10 meetings.
Chris Bassitt will get the ball for Toronto on Sunday as he looks to get the Jays back on track and extend his personal win streak to three games. The right-hander has held the opposition off the board in each of his past two outings — a span of 12 combined innings — while allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine starts.
The Pirates, who rank 22nd in the majors in runs per game (4.05), have scored three runs or fewer in three of their last five outings and look to be in tough against the right-handed Bassitt.
Pittsburgh is batting just .223 against right-handed pitching this season – the fifth-worst mark in the MLB – and could be poised for another low-scoring effort if Bassitt can give the Jays another quality start.
Blue Jays star player prop
My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+145 at PROLINE+)
After finishing the month of May with an impressive .357 batting average, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. started June off on the right foot with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate against the Pirates. While Vladdy hasn’t recorded an RBI in five straight games, I’ll look for him to get off the schneid and drive in a run this afternoon.
Guerrero’s numbers are far from eye-popping on paper with just 25 RBI in 57 games this season, but he’s due for a breakout sooner rather than later. The Jays slugger ranks in the 99th percentile across the majors in terms of hard hit % (59.1) and in the 98th percentile in average exit velocity (94.1).
If he keeps making good contact, the production is bound to come.
