Flames vs Hurricanes Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

With Dan Vladar starting the season in elite form and Carolina continuing to pepper the net with shots, we expect the Flames netminder to cash the Over on his saves prop.

The Calgary Flames have won three straight on home ice and host the Carolina Hurricanes at the Scotiabank Saddledome tonight.

Carolina is coming off a comeback win against the Edmonton Oilers in overtime on Tuesday, and my Hurricanes vs. Flames predictions expect Calgary goalie Dan Vladar to stack up saves during a busy night between the pipes.

Flames vs Hurricanes prediction

My Flames pick
Dan Vladar Over 29.5 saves (-110 at BET99)

My Flames analysis

Calgary Flames goalie Dan Vladar has stopped 46 of 49 shots across his past two starts for a .939 save percentage, and he’s set to face plenty more rubber tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes rank second in shots (33.4) and pace the league in attempts (74.0) per 60 minutes at five-on-five while ranking fifth in shots per game with 32.6. This is nothing new, either. Carolina respectively ranked second (32.6), first (71.4), and third (33.3) in those categories last year, and I expect more of the same from the Hurricanes on Thursday.

Calgary has surrendered the eighth-most shots per game (30.5) while sporting a 23rd-ranked 47.5 Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5, and once again, Carolina has been a possession hog with a 61.4 CF% at 5-on-5.

I also value that every single Carolina skater has an individual CF% above 50% at 5-on-5, and 10 of 18 regulars are above 60%. By comparison, only six Flames boast a CF% north of 50%.

It all adds up to Vladar clearing this saves total without having to be lights out.

Flames vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)

Dan Vladar Over 29.5 saves

Under 6.5 goals

Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 shots

The Flames have surrendered just 1.51 goals per 60 at 5-on-5 through six games and played to the Under in three of the past four. It’s a similar story for the Hurricanes, as Carolina has allowed the sixth-fewest goals per 60 (1.8) and only hit the Over in one of its first five games.

Carolina winger Andrei Svechnikov has three or more shots in four of five games and paces the Hurricanes in both shots and attempts. He’s posted a high-end 61.9 CF% at 5-on-5, and his 14.33 shots and 25.94 attempts per 60 are higher than his respective 8.62 and 18.27 marks from last year.
