The NHL playoffs continue this afternoon as the Colorado Avalanche host the Winnipeg Jets. NHL odds have Colorado as a moderate –165 favorite while the total sits at 6.5.

Find out why I’m backing Colorado in my free NHL picks and Jets vs. Avalanche predictions for April 28.

Jets vs Avalanche prediction

My best bet
Avalanche -1.5 (-145 at SIA)

My analysis

The Colorado Avalanche have turned this series on its head with back-to-back victories, both of which came by at least a three-goal margin. I expect this trend to continue in Game 4, as the Winnipeg Jets have no answer for the Avs’ powerhouse offense.

The Avalanche have scored five or more goals in each of the first three games, and netminder Connor Hellebuyck now possesses a fade-worthy .871 SV% and 5.05 GAA in the series. The Jets defense isn't doing him any favors, considering that the Jets rank 14th among the 16 playoff teams this postseason in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

On the other hand, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev is starting to settle in nicely for Colorado. Over his last two starts, Georgiev is 2-0 with a commanding .926 SV% and 2.00 GAA. With the way these two teams are playing right now, there is no reason not to like the Avs in this spot.

The Avalanche also boast a notable home ice advantage, having gone 31-9-1 at Ball Arena in the regular season.

Jets vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)

Avalanche -1.5

Valeri Nichushkin anytime goalscorer

There is no better candidate to find the back of the net than forward Valeri Nichushkin, who has scored in each of the first three games of this series.

Nichushkin is a power play specialist who saw 57% of his goal production in the regular season come on the man-advantage. Winnipeg finished the campaign ranked 21st in the league in penalty kill percentage and remains highly vulnerable on special teams.

Jets vs Avalanche moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • Colorado opened as a –165 favorite and remains at that price at the time of writing.
  • Expect the market to move in the Avs’ direction, especially considering how dominant they have looked against Hellebuyck in each of the past two games.
  • The total opened at 6.5 and also remains at that number.
  • There have been seven or more total goals scored in each of the past five meetings between these two teams.
