The Winnipeg Jets have a big Central Division matchup on their hands this evening as they take on the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center.

Despite its underdog status, Winnipeg is likely to find some success offensively, and my Jets vs. Stars predictions believe that Mark Scheifele will be one to contribute to the scoring.

Read on for my NHL picks for Sunday, December 1.

My Jets analysis
While the Dallas Stars are a very strong team, their one flaw is defensive play at even strength. This season, Dallas ranks 18th in xGA/60 at 5-on-5, which is one of the very few categories in which this team finds itself in the bottom half of the league.

The point is that they're exploitable defensively, which brings me to Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele. He leads the Jets with 10 goals at even strength this season, and that success is likely to continue Sunday evening.

Scheifele skates on the first line alongside Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi, a grouping with great chemistry that's been paired since the first game of the year. This line is expected to go against Dallas’ first line, which consists of Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Wyatt Johnston.

If you isolate lines that have played 65+ minutes together this season, that Robertson-Hintz-Johnston group ranks in the bottom half of the league in expected goals percentage, which accounts for both scoring chances created as well as scoring chances surrendered.

Finally, goaltender Jake Oettinger is slated to guard the cage for the Stars. He has surrendered 3+ goals in each of his past two starts, posting a .877 SV% over that stretch.

Jets vs Stars Odds analysis

Dallas opened as a -144 favorite and remains at that price at the time of writing. I believe the market might push this line closer to a pick'em, given Winnipeg’s success this season and its need for a bounceback performance.

The total opened at 6 with the juice toward the Over. I doubt this number will drop to 5.5 considering these two offenses.
