Senators vs Hurricanes Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

There are several hot skaters on both sides of this matchup, and a pair of shaky goalies as well. Our NHL expert picks favor the Over.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators are both coming off games that they lost but probably deserved a better outcome.

Pinnacle has the Hurricanes as heavy favorites at -176, and while that feels a little juicy to me for what should be a good hockey game, my Senators vs. Hurricanes predictions and NHL picks are targeting the Over, which is set at 6.5 for this contest on Saturday, November 16.

My Senators analysis

The Ottawa Senators have had a bit of an inconsistent start to the 2024-25 campaign, but if there’s one thing that is reliable about this team, it’s that they can score goals.

Despite falling short in their latest outing, the Senators have tallied 10 goals in their last three games. Brady Tkachuk (three goals, three assists last seven games) and Tim Stützle (two goals, five assists in the same span) have been leading the way.

As a team, the Senators are scoring 3.44 goals per game (11th in the NHL), while converting at a 29.6% clip on the man-advantage — sixth-best in the NHL.

Putting the puck in the net has not been a concern or struggle for this group. However, they thought they had solved their goaltending issues when they had acquired Linus Ullmark, but he hasn’t looked all that dominant out of the gate. Ullmark is skating to a .890 save percentage and a 2.77 goals against average, but has a disappointing -3.9 goals saved above expected.

The Senators have gotten themselves into a ton of track meets, and it’s more than likely that will happen tonight.

Senators vs Hurricanes odds analysis

The total currently sits at 6.5 for this matchup with low juice on the Over, but after scoring only one goal on 50 shots in their last game, you’d have to think that the Carolina Hurricanes will break through tonight. The Canes are the fourth-highest-scoring team in the NHL, tallying 4.00 goals per game, and a lot of credit needs to be given to Martin Necas. Since October 24, Necas is third in the NHL in scoring, putting up seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in his last 10 games.

The Canes are a much better defensive team than Ottawa, but goaltending is a concern for this group with injuries piling up, making them tough to trust at -176 on the moneyline. Spencer Martin came in to close things out in Utah, and he will most likely get the nod tonight. Martin has only gotten two starts this season, and his numbers are not very encouraging (.806 SV%, 5.19 GAA).
