It’s the rubber match of a three-game set between a pair of division leaders, as the Cleveland Guardians are in the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees.

My analysis
Both teams are fighting to keep contenders out of the penthouse suite in their respective divisions. At 74-53, the New York Yankees hold a slim half-game lead on the Orioles, while the Cleveland Guardians, at 73-53 have a little more breathing room, 2.5 games up on both the Twins and Royals.
The Guardians have been sliding of late, having dropped four of their last five, and have been struggling to score runs in the process. Save for their 9-5 win over New York in the series opener, Cleveland has totaled just five runs across those four losses — this from a team that’s putting up 4.58 runs per game and ranks 13th overall in total runs scored on the season.
That’s just one element you have to have to be able to compete with this edition of the Bronx Bombers. New York is second in the majors in scoring and trails Baltimore by just three long balls for the league lead in homers. The Yankees lead the Big Leagues in on-base percentage and OPS and are Top 3 in slugging.
Gavin Williams will have the responsibility of trying to tame the potent Yankees lineup, and though he owns a 2.47 ERA on the road, he’s been touched up in August. In three starts, Williams has been tagged for 18 hits and 12 earned runs, going 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA.
The Yankees will be trotting out the best version of Gerrit Cole they’ve had so far this season. After an elbow injury kept him on the shelf till late June, the reigning AL Cy Young award winner has been battling to find his form.
August has been an encouraging sign, as he's allowed just three runs in three starts. His latest was a gem, going six innings and surrendering just four hits and no earned runs — the first goose egg he’s hung on the board in 10 starts this season — while striking out eight.
New York has owned this head-to-head of late, taking seven of the last 10. They've also been a moneyline favorite nine of those times, running a 6-3 record. Bet on that trend continuing on getaway day.
Guardians vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)
Aaron Judge has been relentless against the Guardians. The major league leader in home runs went yard twice on Wednesday, following up on his dinger in the opener — and six total RBI in the series.
He's now hit safely in nine straight games and has collected 2+ total bases in eight of them, yet is somehow fetching plus-money odds to grab a couple of bases on Thursday. We’ll gladly take that as Williams faces him for the first time.
We’re banking on familiarity to help Jose Ramirez climb out of his recent slump as he’s picked up just one hit and one RBI in his last four games. While most batters would rather not line up against Cole, Ramirez has thrived in their matchups, going 12-for-33 with a pair of home runs and seven RBI.
