Mets vs Dodgers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game 2

Francisco Lindor and the Mets offense fired a dud in Game 1, but Ed Scimia's picks see New York getting up off the mat in Game 2 as the Dodgers try to cobble together a bullpen game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to build off a dominant Game 1 performance when they host the New York Mets for Game 2 of the NLCS on Monday afternoon.

In my Mets vs. Dodgers predictions, I’ll talk about why New York is in a good position to grab a bounce-back win in Game 2 as Los Angeles looks to piece together a bullpen game.

Mets vs Dodgers prediction

Who will win Mets vs Dodgers Game 2?

The Mets have been able to depend on Sean Manaea down the stretch and will have their most advantageous pitching matchup of the series as the Dodgers turn to a bullpen game. I like New York to win Game 2 on the road.

My analysis

The New York Mets took one on the chin in Game 1, as the Los Angeles Dodgers started strong against Kodai Senga and never looked back. However, the pitching matchup in Game 2 should give New York hope that they can steal a road game and head back to Citi Field tied 1-1 in the series.

The Dodgers are looking to piece together a bullpen game on Monday, beginning with an outing by Ryan Brasier, who has served as an opener several times this year. Brasier has been solid in those appearances and put up a reasonable 3.54 ERA and strong 0.964 WHIP in 28 innings of work during the regular season.

My concern isn’t with Brasier specifically, or even any other particular member of the Los Angeles bullpen. Instead, it’s more about the logistics of throwing several pitchers at the Mets and hoping none of them have a bad day.

The Los Angeles pitching staff has been great as of late, throwing 33 consecutive scoreless innings to tie an MLB postseason record. But it would be shocking to me if the deep Mets lineup doesn’t break through multiple times over the course of nine innings of bullpen work in Game 2.

New York can also have confidence in its starting pitcher, Sean Manaea.

The lefty has been excellent so far in two postseason starts for the Mets, allowing just three earned runs on nine hits over 12 innings of work. And while the Dodgers have handled left-handed pitching surprisingly well this year, I still have to think Manaea and other southpaws give the Mets the best chance of slowing down the explosive top of the Los Angeles lineup, especially as Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman do hit notably worse against lefties.

The Dodgers may be favored today, but this game sets up well for New York, and they’ve been taking advantage of opportunities like this all season long. I’m taking the Mets to win outright in Game 2.

Mets vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Mets moneyline

Over 7.5

Francisco Lindor 1+ hits

I’m expecting the Mets to win tonight by finding spots to break through against the Los Angeles bullpen, and that’s the game story I’m attacking in my same-game parlay. I’m taking New York to win outright, and parlaying that with the Over at 7.5 runs, as I expect a breakout game for the Mets offense and also expect the Dodgers lineup to contribute to the total.

Finally, I’ll take Francisco Lindor to pick up at least one hit tonight. Lindor has a hit in three of his last four postseason games, and hit .273 overall this season. He was held hitless in Game 1, but should be able to rebound and bring home our Game 2 SGP.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
