Even after sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays, the Texas Rangers are still a long way from being a serious contender for a repeat World Series bid.
For now, the goal is likely to inch as close to .500 as possible before the All-Star break as they visit the hapless Los Angeles Angels on Monday night.
L.A., having lost six of seven, is a +120 home dog in the MLB odds, and my free Rangers vs. Angels predictions and MLB picks expect Texas to add to the Angels' misery.

My analysis
The Texas Rangers are trying to match a season-best four-game win streak, something they’ve accomplished twice this season. The Rangers are coming off a 13-2 drubbing of the Rays on Sunday, outscoring Tampa 20-5 over the course of the three-game set.
Over the last week, Texas is showing the offensive prowess that powered it to a franchise-first championship a season ago, a far cry from the middle-of-the-pack hitting that has them at 42-48 and needing to leapfrog four teams just to grab the second and final Wild Card berth. Texas is Top 5 in runs scored as well as all the major hitting categories, including an impressive .307 team average, which ranks third over that span.
They send veteran Jon Gray to the mound, who has been shelled in back-to-back starts, allowing 11 runs on 16 hits over nine innings of work. This lineup should be a welcome sight for him, though, as he’s 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA in five career starts against the Los Angeles Angels.
Gray might be catching the Angels at the most opportune time, as L.A. has dropped six of seven, including Sunday’s 5-0 loss to the Cubs.
Over their last four losses, the Halos have scored a total of one run. It's no surprise they’re dead-last in runs scored over the last week with 13. They are hitting a paltry .192, the second-worst mark in the bigs during that stretch.
Rookie Davis Daniel toes the rubber for the Angels on Monday in his third career start, hoping to bounce back from a rough go against the Athletics.
Davis didn't get out of the fifth inning, giving up seven hits and four earned runs — including two homers — in a 5-0 loss. That’s a wild 180-degree turn from his major league debut, when he tossed four-hit ball over eight scoreless innings while striking out eight in a 5-0 win over the Tigers.
These teams have alternated wins in eight straight contests, with the Angels prevailing most recently, and the situation is set for the Rangers to return the favor and get a second-half surge to their sorry season started early.
Rangers vs Angels same-game parlay (SGP)
Two Rangers who powered them to victory on Sunday are front-and-center with our SGP for Monday.
Texas shortstop Cory Seager did damage against the Rays, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Seager now has hits in 12 straight games, and has picked up at least two total bases in eight of his last nine. He’s also hitting a crisp .281 against the righties on the year.
Catcher Jonah Heim had himself a day too, going 4-for-5 with a home run while driving in a pair. He now has hits in five of his last six appearances, and is hitting .313 so far in the month of July. Neither Seager nor Heim have faced Davis yet, but I think both hold the advantage against the rookie.
