Red Sox vs Royals Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

You could call this a make-or-break series for the Red Sox as they trail the Royals by 2.5 games for the final wild-card spot. If Boston wants to make up any ground, they'll do so on the back of a hot-hitting Rafael Devers who is the focus of today's MLB picks.

The Boston Red Sox are still pushing for a playoff spot as we begin the month of August. They begin a big three-game set against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night.

Rafael Devers has become the face of the Red Sox in recent years and he’s showing why this season. He’s a big reason why Boston is just 2.5 games back of Kansas City for a wild card spot.

Can Devers and the Red Sox keep pushing tonight? Read on for my Red Sox vs. Royals predictions and free MLB picks for August 5.

Red Sox vs Royals prediction

My best bet
Rafael Devers Over 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs (-150 via BetMGM)

My analysis

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers is in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career and he’s not slowing down anytime soon.

He’s batting .305 with 25 home runs, 70 RBI, and 71 runs in 98 games. That’s a 162-game pace of 41 home runs and 116 RBI with 121 runs scored.

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Brady Singer is having a strong season for the Royals but the Red Sox (and Devers) have already roughed him up once. Boston chased Singer after just 2.2 innings on July 14th with eight hits and four runs, including a two-run home run by Devers in the first inning. Devers doubled again in the third inning before Singer left the game.

Devers is the power behind the Red Sox offense and he’s showing that as of late. He’s gone Over 1.5 hits/runs/RBI in 11 straight games and 13 of his last 17 overall.

The impressive thing is that Devers has done that in different ways. He’s had multiple hits in seven of those 11 games and has scored a run in nine of his last 11 contests.

We’re paying some juice here at -150, which implies a 60% probability. Devers has hit over that mark for the entire season (61%) and even better recently.

Red Sox vs Royals same-game parlay (SGP)

Rafael Devers 2+ total bases

Rafael Devers 1+ runs scored

Under 10

I’m going full-on with a Rafael Devers same-game parlay for tonight. He’s been on fire recently and has already roughed up Brady Singer once this year.

I’m closing out the parlay with a bit of a contrarian Under 10 play. The Under is 62-48 in Royals games and all three meetings last month had nine or fewer runs.
